4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Unscrew the tail cap of the flashlight counter-clockwise.
  2. Insert the provided 21700 lithium-ion battery with the positive (+) end facing towards the flashlight head.
  3. Screw the tail cap back on clockwise until it is securely tightened. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated to maintain waterproof integrity.

4.2 Initial Charge

It is recommended to fully charge the battery before first use. Refer to the "Charging" section for detailed instructions.

5. Operating Instructions

The TrustFire T21R features a dual-switch design for intuitive control: a tactical tail switch and a side switch.

5.1 Tactical Tail Switch

  • Momentary On: Lightly press and hold the tail switch to temporarily activate the light. Release to turn off.
  • Constant On/Off: Fully press the tail switch until it clicks to turn the flashlight on or off.

5.2 Side Switch (Mode Selection)

When the flashlight is ON (via the tail switch):

  • Change Modes: Press the side switch to cycle through the lighting modes: Eco → Low → Medium → High.
  • Strobe Mode: Press and hold the side switch for 1.5 seconds to activate Strobe mode. Press again to return to the previous mode.
  • Mode Memory: The flashlight will remember the last used brightness mode (Eco, Low, Medium, or High) when turned off and will resume that mode when turned back on.

6. Charging

The T21R flashlight features a convenient USB Type-C charging port.

  1. Turn off the flashlight using the tail switch.
  2. Locate the USB Type-C port on the side of the flashlight, usually protected by a rubber cover. Open the cover.
  3. Insert the USB Type-C charging cable into the flashlight's port and connect the other end to a USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, power bank, computer).
  4. The indicator light on the side switch will turn red during charging.
  5. Once charging is complete, the indicator light will turn green.
  6. Unplug the charging cable and securely close the rubber cover to maintain waterproof integrity.

Important: The battery has a slow self-discharge rate. If the flashlight is not used for an extended period (e.g., six months), it is recommended to perform a charging operation to prevent battery damage.

6.1 Power Indicator

The side switch features a built-in power indicator that illuminates when the flashlight is turned on, showing the remaining battery level:

  • Green: 50% - 100% battery remaining
  • Yellow: 20% - 50% battery remaining
  • Red: 5% - 20% battery remaining
  • Flashing Red: 1% - 5% battery remaining (critical level, recharge immediately)

6.2 Battery Selection

Warning: Only use TrustFire series 21700 lithium-ion batteries or other compatible protected 21700 batteries. Using unsuitable batteries can damage the flashlight or battery. Do not use lithium batteries without a protection plate.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the flashlight body with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the O-rings and threads with silicone grease to maintain waterproof integrity and smooth operation.
  • Battery Care: Remove the battery if the flashlight will not be used for an extended period. Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Contact Points: Keep the battery contact points clean. If they become dirty, clean them with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Heat: The flashlight head may become hot during prolonged use on high brightness modes. Handle with care.
  • Water Immersion: While IPX8 rated, avoid prolonged submersion in water. Ensure the USB port cover and tail cap are securely closed before exposure to water.
  • Battery Handling: Use only recommended batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
  • Disassembly: Do not disassemble the flashlight head or other sealed parts, as this may damage the flashlight and void the warranty.
