1. Important Safety Instructions

2. Product Overview

3. Setup
3.1. Battery Installation
The KHA 18 LTX BL 40 operates on 18V Lithium-Ion battery packs from the CAS system. Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
- Align the battery pack with the battery slot on the tool handle.
- Slide the battery pack into the slot until it clicks securely into place.
- To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery pack out.
3.2. Auxiliary Handle Adjustment
The auxiliary handle can be rotated 360 degrees for optimal working position.
- Loosen the auxiliary handle clamp by rotating it counter-clockwise.
- Adjust the handle to the desired position.
- Tighten the clamp by rotating it clockwise until secure.
3.3. Depth Stop Installation
The depth stop allows for precise drilling depth control.
- Insert the depth stop rod through the hole in the auxiliary handle.
- Adjust the depth stop to the required drilling depth.
- Secure the depth stop by tightening the screw on the auxiliary handle.
3.4. SDS-Max Bit Installation
This tool uses SDS-Max drill bits and chisels.
- Clean the shank of the SDS-Max bit and apply a thin layer of lubricant (provided).
- Pull back the chuck collar.
- Insert the bit into the chuck until it locks into place.
- Release the chuck collar. Pull on the bit to ensure it is securely seated.
- To remove, pull back the chuck collar and pull the bit out.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Mode Selection
The KHA 18 LTX BL 40 offers two operating modes:
- Hammer Drilling: For drilling in concrete, masonry, and stone.
- Chiseling: For light chiseling work, such as removing tiles or breaking small concrete sections.
Rotate the mode selector switch to the desired icon.
4.2. Starting and Stopping
- To start the tool, press the trigger switch. The LED work light will illuminate.
- To stop the tool, release the trigger switch.
4.3. Speed and Impact Energy Control (VTC Electronics)
The Vario Tacho Constamatic (VTC) Electronics allow for customized speeds and impact energy based on the material.
- Adjust the speed preselection wheel to set the maximum speed.
- The tool maintains nearly constant speed even under load.
- For softer materials, an optional speed and impact energy reduction function can be activated (refer to specific tool markings for activation).
4.4. Working with the Tool

- Apply moderate pressure to the tool. Do not force the drill.
- For optimal dust control, connect an external dust extraction system like the Metabo ESA max (accessories sold separately).
- When working at heights, utilize the attachment point for a tool safety belt.
5. Maintenance
5.1. General Cleaning
- Regularly clean the ventilation slots on the motor housing to prevent overheating.
- Wipe down the tool with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
5.2. Chuck Maintenance
- Keep the SDS-Max chuck clean and free of dust and debris.
- Periodically apply a small amount of the provided lubricant to the chuck and bit shanks to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear.
5.3. Battery Care
- Store battery packs in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Do not store fully discharged battery packs for extended periods. Charge them periodically.
5.4. Service
All repairs and maintenance not described in this manual should be performed by authorized Metabo service personnel.
