1. Introduction

The VSSL A.6X is a high-performance 12-channel, 6-zone audio streaming amplifier designed to deliver exceptional sound throughout your home. It allows for independent audio streaming to up to six distinct zones or synchronized playback across multiple zones. With native support for popular streaming protocols and voice assistants, the A.6X integrates seamlessly into modern smart home environments.

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the VSSL A.6X amplifier from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during transit. Ensure all included accessories are present.

2.2 Physical Connections

Before connecting the A.6X to power, ensure all audio and network connections are securely made.

  • Speaker Connections: Connect your speakers to the appropriate zone outputs on the rear panel. The A.6X supports 12 channels across 6 zones. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  • Analog Inputs: Utilize the six matrixed analog inputs (RCA) for connecting external audio sources such as CD players, turntables (with a pre-amp), or other audio devices.
  • Optical Input: Connect digital audio sources via the optical input.
  • Network Connection: For optimal performance and access to streaming features, connect the A.6X to your home network using an Ethernet cable.
  • IR Input: For integration with external control systems.
  • Power Connection: Once all other connections are made, connect the power cord to the A.6X and then to a suitable power outlet. The unit features 115–230 VAC auto-switching power.

2.3 Network Configuration and App Setup

The VSSL A.6X requires network connectivity for streaming and control. Download the latest VSSL mobile application (V1.3 or newer) from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to discover and configure your A.6X unit on your network. This app facilitates effortless setup and control of all VSSL products.

3. Operating the VSSL A.6X

3.1 Streaming Music

The VSSL A.6X supports native streaming directly from your favorite music applications without the need for third-party software. Simply open your preferred music app and select the VSSL A.6X as the output device.

  • AirPlay 2: For Apple devices, select the A.6X from the AirPlay menu in any audio-playing app.
  • Google Cast (Chromecast built-in): For Android devices and Chrome browsers, cast audio to the A.6X from compatible apps.
  • Spotify Connect: Within the Spotify app, select the A.6X as a Spotify Connect device.
  • Bluetooth: Pair your Bluetooth-enabled device with the A.6X for direct audio streaming.

3.2 Multi-Zone Audio Control

The A.6X allows for flexible audio distribution across its six zones:

  • Independent Zones: Each zone can play a different audio source simultaneously, allowing for personalized listening experiences in various rooms.
  • Grouped Zones: Combine multiple zones to play the same audio source in perfect synchronization, ideal for parties or whole-home audio. Control grouping via the VSSL mobile app.

3.3 Voice Control Integration

The VSSL A.6X is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, enabling convenient voice control over your music playback. Simply link your A.6X to your preferred voice assistant platform and use voice commands to play music, adjust volume, or switch sources in any zone.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your VSSL A.6X amplifier, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the amplifier. Do not block ventilation openings. Maintain proper spacing if rack-mounting to prevent overheating.
  • Software Updates: Regularly check the VSSL mobile app for firmware updates. Keeping the software updated ensures access to the latest features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
  • Cable Management: Periodically check all cable connections to ensure they are secure and free from damage.
