Setup
1. Physical Placement
Place the Bobcat 300 in a location with good ventilation and away from direct sunlight or heat sources. For optimal performance, position the antenna as high as possible and with minimal obstructions.
2. Antenna Connection
- Carefully screw the provided antenna onto the LoRa Antenna Connector on the rear of the device. Ensure it is finger-tight.
3. Network Connection
The Bobcat 300 supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity.
- Ethernet (Recommended): Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet Port on the miner and the other end to your router or network switch.
- Wi-Fi: If using Wi-Fi, the connection will be configured during the initial setup via the mobile application.
4. Power Connection
- Connect the power adapter to the DC 12V port on the miner.
- Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet. The device will power on automatically.
5. Initial Configuration (Helium App)
To onboard and configure your miner, you will need the official Helium mobile application (available for Android and iPhone).
- Download and install the Helium Wallet app from your device's app store.
- Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new Helium wallet or import an existing one.
- Select the option to Add a Hotspot and choose Bobcat from the list of manufacturers.
- The app will guide you through connecting to the miner via Bluetooth (press the BT Button if prompted) and configuring its network settings (Wi-Fi or confirming Ethernet).
- Complete the onboarding process, which may require a small amount of Data Credits (DC) to register the hotspot on the Helium network.
Operating
Once successfully onboarded, your Bobcat 300 will begin to synchronize with the Helium blockchain. This process can take several hours to a few days. During synchronization, the miner will not actively participate in network activities or earn rewards.
- Status Monitoring: Use the Helium mobile app to monitor your hotspot's status, synchronization progress, and earnings.
- Network Activity: The miner will automatically begin to witness other hotspots and transfer data packets for IoT devices once fully synchronized.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Firmware Updates: The Bobcat 300 typically receives automatic firmware updates. Ensure your device remains connected to the internet to receive these updates, which are crucial for performance and security.
- Environmental Conditions: Maintain the device within its recommended operating temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Bobcat 300, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Miner Not Online/Relayed Status:
- Ensure your internet connection is stable.
- Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected, or Wi-Fi settings are correct in the Helium app.
- Check your router settings to ensure that port 44158 (TCP) is forwarded to your miner's IP address. Consult your router's manual or ISP for port forwarding instructions.
- Restart the miner by unplugging and replugging the power adapter.
- Slow Synchronization:
- Synchronization can take a significant amount of time (24-48 hours or more). Ensure a stable internet connection during this period.
- Check the Helium app for the current sync status.
- No Earnings:
- Confirm the miner is fully synchronized and not in a 'Relayed' state.
- Ensure the antenna is properly connected and positioned for optimal signal.
- Check the Helium network status for any widespread issues.
- App Connectivity Issues:
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.
- Try restarting the Helium app or your mobile device.
- Press the BT Button on the miner to re-enable Bluetooth pairing mode.
