1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your maXpeedingrods Lift Leveling Kit. This kit is designed to provide a 3-inch front lift and a 2-inch rear lift for Ford Explorer 2WD and 4WD models manufactured between 2002 and 2005. The spacers are constructed from high-strength carbon steel with a powder-coated surface for corrosion resistance, ensuring durability and a comfortable ride while allowing for larger tire fitment (up to 33x12.50).
Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning installation to ensure a safe and correct procedure. Professional installation is recommended.

2. Safety Warnings
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and closed-toe shoes.
- Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands on a level surface before beginning any work. Never rely solely on a jack.
- Disconnect the vehicle's battery before working on any electrical components.
- Exercise caution when working with springs and suspension components, as they can be under high tension.
- Do not modify any components of the lift kit. Use only the provided hardware.
- After installation, a professional wheel alignment is mandatory to prevent premature tire wear and ensure proper vehicle handling.
- Be aware that lifting a vehicle can alter its center of gravity and handling characteristics. Drive cautiously after installation.
- Some users have reported potential issues with upper control arm (UCA) angles and alignment with lifts of this size. Consider inspecting or upgrading UCAs if alignment issues persist.
3. Package Contents
Please verify that all components are present and undamaged before proceeding with installation. In case of missing or damaged parts, contact maXpeedingrods customer support.

4. Tools Required
- Vehicle Jack and Jack Stands
- Wheel Chocks
- Metric Socket Set and Wrenches
- Torque Wrench
- Breaker Bar
- Pry Bar
- Hammer/Mallet
- Penetrating Oil
- Anti-Seize Compound
- Measuring Tape
5. Front Installation (3" Lift)
Follow these steps for installing the front strut spacers. Perform these steps on one side of the vehicle at a time.
- Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the rear wheels.
- Loosen the front lug nuts, then raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and support it securely with jack stands. Remove the front wheels.
- Locate the upper strut mounting nuts under the hood. Do not remove them yet.
- Disconnect the sway bar end link from the lower control arm.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower strut mount to the lower control arm.
- Carefully remove the upper strut mounting nuts. The strut assembly can now be removed from the vehicle.
- Install the maXpeedingrods front strut spacer on top of the factory strut assembly. Ensure the bolt holes align correctly. The kit is designed for bolt-on installation, meaning a spring compressor is typically not required to disassemble the strut itself.
- Reinstall the strut assembly with the spacer into the vehicle. Secure the upper strut mount with the new hardware provided in the kit.
- Reattach the lower strut mount to the lower control arm. It may be necessary to use a pry bar to lower the control arm sufficiently to align the bolt holes.
- Reconnect the sway bar end link.
- Tighten all nuts and bolts to factory torque specifications. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for exact values.

6. Rear Installation (2" Lift)
Follow these steps for installing the rear lift spacers. Perform these steps on one side of the vehicle at a time.
- With the front wheels chocked, raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack and support it securely with jack stands under the frame. Allow the rear axle to hang freely. Remove the rear wheels.
- Locate the lower shock mount bolt and remove it.
- Carefully lower the rear axle assembly to allow enough space to remove the factory coil spring. Be mindful of brake lines and ABS sensor wires.
- Install the maXpeedingrods rear lift spacer on top of the factory coil spring perch on the axle.
- Reinstall the factory coil spring on top of the new spacer.
- Raise the rear axle assembly to align the lower shock mount. Reinstall the lower shock mount bolt.
- Tighten all nuts and bolts to factory torque specifications. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for exact values.
7. Post-Installation Procedures
7.1. Final Checks
- Double-check all nuts and bolts for proper tightness.
- Ensure all brake lines, ABS wires, and other components are clear of moving suspension parts.
- Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle.
7.2. Wheel Alignment
Immediately after installation, it is crucial to have a professional wheel alignment performed. Lifting the vehicle significantly alters suspension geometry, and proper alignment is essential for safe driving, optimal handling, and preventing premature tire wear.
7.3. Test Drive
Perform a short test drive on a safe, low-traffic road. Listen for any unusual noises, check for proper steering response, and ensure the brakes function correctly. If any issues are detected, safely pull over and inspect the installation.
8. Maintenance
Regular inspection of your lift kit components is recommended to ensure continued safe operation.
- Periodically check all mounting hardware for tightness, especially after the first 500 miles of driving.
- Inspect the spacers for any signs of corrosion, cracks, or damage.
- Check suspension bushings and ball joints for wear, as lifting can sometimes accelerate wear on these components.
- Keep the suspension components clean, especially after off-road use, to prevent dirt and debris buildup.
9. Troubleshooting
9.1. Uneven Lift
- Cause: Incorrect installation, settled components, or pre-existing suspension issues.
- Solution: Re-verify all measurements and installation steps. Ensure all hardware is torqued correctly. Allow a few days for the suspension to settle. If the issue persists, consult a professional mechanic.
9.2. Noise (Clunking, Squeaking)
- Cause: Loose hardware, components rubbing, or worn factory parts.
- Solution: Inspect all bolts and nuts for tightness. Check for any contact points between suspension components or between components and the vehicle frame. Lubricate bushings if necessary.
9.3. Steering or Handling Issues
- Cause: Incorrect wheel alignment, worn steering components, or altered suspension geometry.
- Solution: Immediately get a professional wheel alignment. Inspect steering and suspension components for wear or damage.
