Setup

Initial Winding

As an automatic watch, the Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional is powered by the movement of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or its power reserve is low, manually wind it by rotating the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times while it is in position 1 (fully pushed in). This will provide sufficient power to start the movement.

Setting the Time and Date

  1. Unscrew the Crown: Gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1.
  2. Set the Date: Pull the crown out to position 2. Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM to prevent damage to the movement.
  3. Set the Time: Pull the crown out to position 3. The seconds hand will stop. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accuracy, synchronize with a reliable time source.
  4. Push and Screw Down the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 1 and screw it down clockwise firmly against the case. This ensures water resistance.

Operating Instructions

Using the Unidirectional Rotating Bezel

The Seastar 2000 Professional features a unidirectional rotating bezel, designed for dive timing. To use it:

  1. Rotate the bezel counter-clockwise to align the zero marker with the minute hand.
  2. The minute hand will then indicate the elapsed time on the bezel.
  3. The unidirectional rotation prevents accidental increases in dive time.

Helium Escape Valve

This watch is equipped with an automatic helium escape valve, located on the side of the case. This valve is crucial for saturation divers. During decompression in a hyperbaric chamber, helium atoms, which are smaller than water molecules, can penetrate the watch case. As the diver ascends and the external pressure decreases, the trapped helium expands. The automatic valve releases this helium, preventing pressure buildup that could damage the watch crystal.

The helium escape valve operates automatically and does not require manual intervention.

Water Resistance

Your watch is water-resistant to 600 meters (60 bar / 2,000 feet). Ensure the crown is always fully screwed down before any contact with water. While designed for diving, avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperature changes or chemical substances, which can compromise seals over time.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Regularly clean your watch with a soft, damp cloth. For stainless steel bracelets, a soft brush and mild soapy water can be used, ensuring to rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterward. Always ensure the crown is screwed down before cleaning with water.

Service Intervals

Automatic mechanical movements, like the Powermatic 80 in your Tissot Seastar 2000 Professional, require periodic servicing to maintain optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Tissot service center every 3 to 5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn components and seals.

Storage

When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. The original watch box is ideal for storage.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch has stopped: Manually wind the watch using the crown (30-40 turns) or wear it for several hours to allow the automatic movement to build up power reserve.
  • Inaccurate time: Ensure the watch is fully wound. If inaccuracy persists, it may require servicing. Avoid exposing the watch to strong magnetic fields, which can affect accuracy.
  • Condensation under the crystal: This indicates a potential breach in water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage.
  • Date not changing correctly: Ensure the date is not being set during the forbidden period (9 PM to 3 AM). If the issue persists, consult a service professional.
