  1. Input Jack: Connect your instrument or the output of a preceding effect pedal here when using the SP30 as a volume pedal.
  2. EXP OUT Jack: Connect this to the expression pedal input of your multi-effects unit or other compatible device using a TRS cable.
  3. OUTPUT Jack: Connect this to your amplifier or the input of the next effect pedal in your chain when using the SP30 as a volume pedal.

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting as a Volume Pedal

  1. Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar) or the output of a preceding effect pedal to the Input Jack of the Ampero Press SP30 using a standard 1/4-inch TS (mono) instrument cable.
  2. Connect the Output Jack of the Ampero Press SP30 to your amplifier's input or the input of the next effect pedal in your signal chain using a standard 1/4-inch TS (mono) instrument cable.
  3. Ensure all connections are secure. The pedal is now ready for use as a passive volume control.

3.2 Connecting as an Expression Pedal

  1. Connect the EXP OUT Jack of the Ampero Press SP30 to the expression pedal input of your multi-effects unit or other compatible device. Important: Use a 1/4-inch TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve, stereo) cable for this connection. A standard TS (mono) cable will not function correctly for expression control.
  2. Refer to your multi-effects unit's manual for specific instructions on how to assign and calibrate an external expression pedal.
  3. The Ampero Press SP30 does not require power when used as an expression pedal.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Using as a Volume Pedal

Once connected as a volume pedal (refer to Section 3.1), simply rock the pedal forward and backward with your foot to control the volume of your signal. Pushing the pedal fully forward will result in maximum volume, while pulling it fully back will reduce the volume, potentially to silence depending on the pedal's sweep.

4.2 Using as an Expression Pedal

When connected as an expression pedal (refer to Section 3.2), the Ampero Press SP30 sends control voltage signals to your connected device. The function controlled (e.g., Wah, Delay Time, Reverb Mix) and the range of control are determined by the settings within your multi-effects unit or compatible pedal. Rock the pedal forward and backward to modulate the assigned parameter.

Note: The Ampero Press SP30 can be used simultaneously as a volume pedal and an expression pedal. The independent output jacks allow for separate control paths. For example, you can control your overall volume while simultaneously controlling a wah effect on a multi-effects unit.

5. Maintenance

The Hotone Ampero Press SP30 is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the pedal's exterior. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Cable Management: Ensure cables are not excessively bent or strained, which can lead to damage over time.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Response from Expression Pedal

  • Check Cable Type: Ensure you are using a 1/4-inch TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cable to connect the EXP OUT jack to your device. A standard TS (mono) instrument cable will not work for expression control.
  • Device Settings: Verify that your multi-effects unit or compatible device is correctly configured to receive expression pedal input and that the parameter is assigned. Consult your device's manual for calibration and assignment procedures.
  • Polarity: Some devices may have specific polarity requirements for expression pedals. If the pedal's range feels off (e.g., full sweep in a small portion of the pedal's travel), check if your device has a setting to adjust expression pedal polarity (TRS vs. RTS). The Ampero Press SP30 typically functions as a standard TRS expression pedal.

6.2 Volume Pedal Sweep Issues

  • Passive Design Characteristics: As a passive volume pedal, the sweep may feel different compared to active volume pedals. The response is directly tied to the potentiometer's taper. If the volume changes abruptly or only at the extremes, this is a characteristic of passive volume pedals and their interaction with your specific signal chain.
  • Signal Chain Placement: Experiment with placing the volume pedal at different points in your signal chain (e.g., before or after gain stages) to see how it affects the perceived volume sweep.
