4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your FH270 heat pump. It is highly recommended that installation be performed by a certified pool professional or a qualified electrician and plumber.
4.1. Site Selection
- Choose a location outdoors with ample airflow, away from obstructions that could impede air circulation.
- Ensure the unit is placed on a solid, level surface capable of supporting its weight (approximately 160.7 lbs). Concrete pads or sturdy pavers are suitable.
- Maintain a minimum clearance of 24 inches (60 cm) around the air intake and exhaust sides for optimal performance.
4.2. Electrical Connection
The FH270 requires a dedicated 240 Volt circuit. Consult the electrical specifications on the unit's label and local electrical codes for appropriate breaker size and wiring requirements. The unit is designed for convenient installation with a 240-volt circuit.
- All electrical connections must be made by a licensed electrician.
- Ensure the power supply is disconnected at the main breaker before beginning any wiring.
- Installation parts, including wiring terminals, are located inside the service door panel. Unscrew the four Phillips screws at the corners of this panel to access them.
4.3. Plumbing Connection
The heat pump connects to your pool's filtration system. It comes with 1 1/2 inch compression fittings for easy integration.
- Connect the pool water return line to the heat pump's inlet and the heat pump's outlet to the pool's return line.
- Ensure all connections are watertight to prevent leaks.
- A bypass valve setup is recommended to control water flow through the heat pump and for maintenance purposes.
4.4. Initial Startup
- After all electrical and plumbing connections are secure, ensure your pool pump is running and water is flowing through the heat pump.
- Restore power to the heat pump at the main breaker.
- The digital control panel will illuminate. Follow the operating instructions to set your desired pool temperature.
5. Operating Instructions
The FH270 heat pump features a user-friendly digital control panel for easy temperature setting and monitoring.

Figure 5.1: The digital control panel for the FH270 heat pump.
5.1. Digital Control Panel
The control panel displays the current water temperature and allows you to set the desired temperature. It typically includes buttons for power, mode selection, and temperature adjustment (up/down arrows).
- Power On/Off: Press the power button to turn the unit on or off.
- Temperature Setting: Use the up and down arrows to adjust your desired pool water temperature. The unit will automatically heat the water to this set point.
- Mode Selection: Some models may offer different operating modes (e.g., heating only, cooling). Refer to the specific icons on your display.
The heat pump operates automatically based on the water flow. When the pool pump is running and water is flowing through the unit, the heat pump will activate if the water temperature is below the set point. It will automatically turn off once the desired temperature is reached or if water flow ceases.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your FibroPool FH270 heat pump.
- Coil Cleaning: Periodically inspect the evaporator coil (the large finned area) for debris, leaves, or dirt. Clean gently with a soft brush or hose to ensure unrestricted airflow.
- Clearances: Ensure that the area around the heat pump remains clear of vegetation, debris, or any obstructions that could block airflow.
- Water Chemistry: Maintain proper pool water chemistry to prevent corrosion and scaling within the heat exchanger.
- Winterization: In colder climates where temperatures drop below freezing, proper winterization of the heat pump is essential to prevent damage. Consult a pool professional for specific winterization procedures for your region. This typically involves draining water from the unit and protecting it from the elements.
7. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your FH270 heat pump. For problems not listed here, or if solutions do not resolve the issue, contact FibroPool customer support.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Heat pump not turning on. | No power, low water flow, unit in standby. | Check circuit breaker. Ensure pool pump is running and water is flowing. Press power button on control panel. |
| Unit displays "No Flow" error. | Insufficient water flow through the unit. | Verify pool pump is operating correctly. Check for clogged skimmer baskets, pump strainer, or dirty filter. Ensure all valves are open and water lines are clear. |
| Water not heating sufficiently. | Ambient air temperature too low, pool size exceeds capacity, dirty coils, incorrect temperature setting. | Ensure ambient temperature is within operating range (above 50°F). Verify pool size is within recommended limits (up to 15,000 gallons). Clean evaporator coils. Check and adjust set temperature on control panel. Consider using a solar blanket to retain heat. |
| Unusual noises from unit. | Debris in fan, loose components, refrigerant issue. | Turn off unit and inspect fan area for obstructions. If noise persists or is unusual, contact customer support. |
