Product Overview

The PWAYTEK HDMI Extender system consists of two main units: a Transmitter (TX) and a Receiver (RX). Both units are compact and designed for efficient signal transmission over network cables.

Transmitter (TX) Unit

  • HDMI IN: Connects to your HDMI source device (e.g., PC, Blu-ray player).
  • HDMI OUT (Loopout): Allows connection to a local display for monitoring the source signal.
  • RJ45 (CATx): Connects to the network cable for signal transmission to the Receiver.
  • DC 5V: Power input port.
  • PWR LED: Power indicator light.
  • STA LED: Status indicator light.

Receiver (RX) Unit

  • HDMI OUT: Connects to your display device (e.g., TV, projector).
  • RJ45 (CATx): Connects to the network cable from the Transmitter or network switch.
  • DC 5V: Power input port.
  • PWR LED: Power indicator light.
  • STA LED: Status indicator light.

Setup and Installation

Before proceeding with the installation, please perform the following checks:

  • Set the output resolution of your signal source not higher than your display's maximum resolution. The extender supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080P@60Hz.
  • Connect your source device directly to your display to confirm they have image output without the extender.

Connection Methods

1. Direct Connection (One-to-One)

This is the simplest setup for extending an HDMI signal to a single display.

  1. Connect your HDMI source (e.g., DVD player, PC) to the HDMI IN port of the Transmitter (TX) unit using an HDMI 1.3 cable (recommended within 15 feet).
  2. Connect your display device (e.g., TV, projector) to the HDMI OUT port of the Receiver (RX) unit using an HDMI cable.
  3. Connect the RJ45 port of the Transmitter (TX) to the RJ45 port of the Receiver (RX) using a single Cat5e/Cat6/Cat7/Cat8 network cable. The maximum transmission distance is 150m (492ft) for Cat5e/6/7 and 120m (400ft) for Cat5. Ensure the Ethernet cable is crimped using the 568B standard (white orange, orange, white green, blue, white blue, green, white brown, brown).
  4. Connect the provided 5VDC power adapters to both the Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) units and plug them into power outlets.
  5. Verify that the PWR and STA LEDs on both units are illuminated, indicating proper power and signal status.

2. One-to-Multiple Connection via Network Switch

This method allows you to distribute a single HDMI source to multiple displays using a standard Ethernet switch. The system supports up to 253 receivers.

  1. Connect your HDMI source to the HDMI IN port of the Transmitter (TX) unit.
  2. Connect the RJ45 port of the Transmitter (TX) to an available port on your network switch.
  3. For each display, connect an HDMI Extender Receiver (RX) unit. Connect the RJ45 port of each Receiver (RX) to an available port on the same network switch.
  4. Connect each display device to the HDMI OUT port of its respective Receiver (RX) unit.
  5. Connect the provided 5VDC power adapters to all Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) units and plug them into power outlets.
  6. Ensure all PWR and STA LEDs are active.

Note: For optimal performance in a one-to-multiple setup, it is recommended to use a dedicated network switch for the extender system to avoid potential network congestion or IP conflicts with other network traffic. If IP conflicts occur, please consult the troubleshooting section or contact support.

Operating Instructions

Local Loop Out Function

Diagram showing a local loop out connection from the transmitter to a monitor, while the main signal extends to a remote display.

The Transmitter (TX) unit is equipped with an HDMI OUT port, also known as a local loop-out. This feature allows you to connect a local display directly to the transmitter, enabling you to monitor the source signal at the transmission point without interrupting the extended signal to the remote receiver(s).

To use this feature, simply connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT port on the TX unit to your local monitor.

Resolution and Data Transmission

Comparison image showing a 'General' lower resolution image next to a '1080P' higher resolution image, demonstrating HD visual enjoyment.

The PWAYTEK HDMI Extender supports a maximum input and output resolution of 1920x1080P@60Hz, ensuring high-definition visual quality. It is backward compatible with lower resolutions. The system supports a maximum pixel clock of 165MHz and a maximum data transfer rate of 6.75Gbps.

For optimal performance, ensure your source device's output resolution is set to 1080P@60Hz or lower, and that your display device supports this resolution.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using the PWAYTEK HDMI Extender, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No image on display.
  • No power to TX/RX units.
  • Incorrect HDMI cable connection.
  • Faulty network cable or connection.
  • Source/display resolution incompatibility.
  • HDMI cable length exceeds recommendation.
  • Check if power adapters are connected and PWR LEDs are on.
  • Ensure HDMI cables are securely connected to correct ports (IN on TX, OUT on RX).
  • Verify network cable is properly crimped (568B standard) and securely connected. Test with a different cable if possible.
  • Adjust source resolution to 1080P@60Hz or lower.
  • Use HDMI 1.3 cables within 15 feet.
Flickering image or intermittent signal.
  • Poor quality network cable.
  • Network cable too long.
  • Interference on the network.
  • IP conflict in one-to-many setup.
  • Use high-quality Cat5e/Cat6/Cat7/Cat8 cables.
  • Ensure cable length is within specified limits (150m for Cat5e/6/7, 120m for Cat5).
  • Minimize other network traffic if using a shared switch. Consider a dedicated switch.
  • If using a smart switch, ensure it's configured correctly or try a simple unmanaged switch.
One-to-many setup not working.
  • Network switch issues.
  • IP address conflicts.
  • Ensure the network switch is functioning correctly and all ports are active.
  • If using a managed switch, ensure IGMP snooping is enabled if available, or try an unmanaged switch.
  • The devices are designed to assign different IPs automatically. If issues persist, try power cycling all units and the switch.
