iMounTEK Electric Dog Fence System User Manual

Model: GPCT2529

1. Introduction

The iMounTEK Electric Dog Fence System is a reliable pet containment solution designed to help train your dog to stay within a designated area. This system uses a buried wire to transmit a harmless radio signal, creating a boundary. When your dog approaches this boundary, the receiver collar will first deliver a warning beep. If the dog continues to move closer to the boundary, the system will then issue a mild static correction, which increases in intensity if the dog proceeds further, encouraging your dog to return to the safe zone. This system is intended for use with dogs only and helps maintain a safe and tidy environment for your pet.

2. Important Safety Information

  • This system is designed for dogs only. Do not use it with other animals.
  • Allow your dog to adapt to wearing the collar before beginning training. The collar should be a comfortable part of their routine.
  • Do not adjust system settings while the collar is on your dog.
  • Keep all components out of reach of children.
  • Read all instructions thoroughly before using this product.
  • Use the system only under the supervision of the dog's owner.
  • Do not leave the receiver collar on your pet for more than 12 hours per day.
  • The receiver collar is water-resistant but not designed for submersion. Do not allow it to soak in water.
  • During installation, ensure correct polarity for battery connections to avoid damage.

  • Cable OK/Break Indicator: Lights up to confirm the boundary wire loop is intact or indicates a break.
  • On/Off (Field Width Adjustment Knob): Controls the power and adjusts the width of the signal field.
  • Power Port: Connects to the power adapter.
  • Wire Terminals: Connect the ends of the boundary wire.
  • Audible Indicator: Sounds an alarm if a wire break is detected.

4.2 Receiver Collar

The receiver collar is worn by your dog and detects the radio signal from the boundary wire. It delivers warning beeps and static corrections.

  • Adjustable Strap: Ensures a secure and comfortable fit for various dog sizes.
  • Contact Points: Deliver the static correction. Choose appropriate length for your dog's coat.
  • Battery Compartment: Houses the collar battery.

5. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the effective operation of your electric dog fence system.

5.1 Planning Your Containment Area

Before installing, design your desired containment area. Consider the amount of wire needed and avoid sharp corners, which can reduce signal effectiveness. The system supports an adjustable range up to 1.2 acres (53,189 sq ft).

5.2 Installing the Transmitter

Install the wall-mounted transmitter in a dry, protected location, such as a garage or utility room. Ensure it is not exposed to rain or direct sunlight. The transmitter does not support 12V voltage.

5.3 Laying Out the Perimeter Wire

Lay out the boundary wire according to your planned containment area. The wire must form a continuous loop. For best results, bury the wire 1-3 inches deep. Ensure the wire is not knotted, as this can affect the signal.

5.4 Connecting the Wire to the Transmitter

Before connecting, strip a small amount of insulation from the ends of the boundary wire to expose the core. Connect these exposed ends to the wire terminals on the transmitter. Once connected, two green lights should illuminate on the transmitter, indicating proper function.

5.5 Setting Up and Testing the Receiver Collar

  1. Install the batteries into the receiver collar, ensuring correct polarity.
  2. Fit the collar to your dog, ensuring the contact points touch the skin. The collar should be snug but not overly tight.
  3. Test the system by walking your dog towards the boundary. The collar should emit a warning beep, followed by a static correction if the boundary is crossed.
  4. Adjust the field width using the knob on the transmitter to set the desired distance for the warning and correction zones.

5.6 Installing Training Flags

Place training flags around the perimeter of your boundary. These visual cues help your dog understand the limits of their safe area during initial training.

6. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the system operates automatically to contain your pet within the defined boundary.

6.1 Automatic Correction System

When your dog approaches the boundary wire, the receiver collar will first emit a warning beep. If the dog continues to move closer to the boundary, a mild static correction will be delivered. The intensity of the correction increases as the dog gets closer to or crosses the boundary, effectively encouraging them to return to the safe play area.

6.2 Adjustable Control Range

The transmitter features a knob to adjust the width of the boundary signal. This allows you to customize the size of the containment area and the distance at which the warning and correction activate. The system can cover an area up to 1.2 acres (53,189 sq ft).

6.3 Multiple Dog Support

One transmitter unit can be paired with up to three receiver collars, allowing you to contain multiple dogs simultaneously. The system is suitable for dogs weighing 4 lbs or more, with neck sizes ranging from 7.5 inches to 17.92 inches.

7. Maintenance

  • Collar Care: Regularly check the receiver collar for wear and tear. Clean the contact points to ensure proper function. Do not immerse the collar in water.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace receiver collar batteries as needed to ensure consistent operation.
  • Wire Inspection: Periodically inspect the boundary wire for any damage or breaks, especially after landscaping or severe weather. The transmitter's 'Cable Break' indicator will alert you to a broken wire.
  • Transmitter Placement: Ensure the transmitter remains in a dry, protected environment.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Signal/Collar Not Activating:
    • Check if the transmitter is powered on and the 'Power' indicator is lit.
    • Verify the boundary wire is properly connected to the transmitter terminals.
    • Check the 'Cable OK' indicator on the transmitter. If 'Break' is lit or an audible alarm sounds, there is a break in the boundary wire. Inspect the wire for damage and repair as necessary.
    • Ensure the boundary wire forms a continuous, unknotted loop. Knots can disrupt the signal.
    • Confirm the receiver collar has fresh batteries and is correctly installed.
  • Collar Activates Inside Boundary:
    • Adjust the 'Field Width Adjustment Knob' on the transmitter to reduce the signal range.
    • Ensure there are no other strong radio signals or electrical interference near the boundary wire.
  • Collar Not Providing Sufficient Correction:
    • Ensure the contact points on the collar are making proper contact with your dog's skin. You may need to trim long-haired dogs or use longer contact points.
    • Check the collar battery level.
    • Increase the 'Field Width Adjustment Knob' slightly to ensure the dog receives the correction at the intended boundary.
