Model: IWS-123D | Brand: IWISS

1. Introduction

The iCrimp Deutsch Contact Removal Tool Kit (Model IWS-123D) is designed for the safe and efficient removal of Deutsch solid contacts from DT, DTM, and DTP series connectors. This 3-piece kit provides specialized tools to prevent damage to terminals and wires during the extraction process, ensuring reliable electrical connections in various automotive and industrial applications.

2. Components

The iCrimp Deutsch Contact Removal Tool Kit includes three distinct tools, each color-coded and sized for specific wire gauges:

  • DR01 (Red): Designed for 20-24 AWG (American Wire Gauge) Deutsch terminals.
  • DR02 (Blue): Designed for 16-18 AWG Deutsch terminals.
  • DR03 (Gold): Designed for 14-16 AWG Deutsch terminals.

3. Setup

No specific setup is required for these tools. Ensure you select the correct tool (DR01, DR02, or DR03) based on the wire gauge of the Deutsch contact you intend to remove. Refer to the "Components" section for gauge compatibility.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to safely remove Deutsch contacts using the iCrimp tools:

  1. Identify the Correct Tool: Determine the wire gauge of the contact to be removed. Select the corresponding iCrimp tool (DR01 for 20-24AWG, DR02 for 16-18AWG, DR03 for 14-16AWG).
  2. Insert the Tool: Carefully insert the U-shaped blade of the selected tool into the connector cavity, around the wire and contact. Push the tool firmly until it bottoms out. This action releases the locking tangs of the contact.
  3. Remove the Contact: While holding the tool in place, gently pull the wire and contact out from the rear of the connector. The contact should slide out easily once the tangs are disengaged.
  4. Inspect and Reassemble: After removal, inspect the contact and connector for any damage. If reinserting, ensure the locking tangs on the contact are properly formed before pushing it back into the connector until it clicks into place.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your iCrimp Deutsch Contact Removal Tools:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe the tools clean with a dry cloth to remove any dirt, grease, or debris.
  • Storage: Store the tools in a dry environment to prevent rust or corrosion. The original packaging or a tool roll is recommended for protection.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the tool tips for any signs of bending, wear, or damage. Damaged tools may not function correctly and could harm contacts or connectors.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter difficulties while using the tools, consider the following:

  • Contact Not Releasing:
    • Ensure you are using the correct size tool for the wire gauge.
    • Verify the tool is fully inserted and seated around the contact.
    • Check if the contact's locking tangs are bent or damaged, preventing release.
  • Tool Bending/Damage:
    • Avoid excessive force. The tools are designed to release contacts with minimal effort when correctly applied.
    • Ensure the tool is aligned properly with the contact and not forced at an angle.
