Nesthao Bed Sensor Alarm and Fall Prevention System User Manual

Model: 1 Caregiver Pager + 1 Sensor

Introduction

The Nesthao Bed Sensor Alarm and Fall Prevention System is designed to assist caregivers in monitoring individuals who may be at risk of falling or wandering. This wireless system provides timely alerts when a person gets out of bed or leaves a designated area, enhancing safety and peace of mind. The system consists of a motion sensor and a caregiver pager, communicating wirelessly over a range of up to 918 feet in open areas.

What's Included

Your Nesthao Bed Sensor Alarm system package includes the following components:

  • 1 Caregiver Pager (includes 3 AA batteries)
  • 1 Motion Sensor (includes 3 AAA batteries)
  • 1 Micro USB Cable
  • 1 Double-sided Tape
  • 1 Screw Kit
  • 1 User Manual

Setup Instructions

1. Battery Installation

Both the Caregiver Pager and the Motion Sensor require batteries for operation. Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.

  • Caregiver Pager: Open the battery compartment and insert 3 AA batteries.
  • Motion Sensor: Open the battery compartment and insert 3 AAA batteries.

Alternatively, both units can be powered via the provided Micro USB cable for continuous operation without relying on batteries.

2. Powering On and Self-Test

Turn on both the Caregiver Pager and the Motion Sensor using their respective ON/OFF switches.

  • Upon activation, the motion sensor will initiate a self-test procedure. The indicator light will flash slowly for approximately 20 seconds.
  • Once the light turns off, the sensor is in its operational state.

3. Initial Pairing (if required)

The units are typically pre-paired from the factory. If re-pairing is necessary, refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual or contact customer support.

Operating Instructions

1. Caregiver Pager Functions

The caregiver pager provides audible and visual alerts.

  • Volume Adjustment: Use the volume key to cycle through 5 different volume levels, ranging from 0 dB to 113 dB. The pager remembers your last set volume once powered off.
  • Melody Selection: The pager offers 36 different melodies. Use the 'Select Songs' key to choose your preferred alert sound.
  • LED Light Reminder: In addition to sound, the pager features a multi-color LED light that flashes upon activation, providing a visual alert.
  • Quick Close: The pager is battery-powered, allowing for quick deactivation of the alarm without needing to unplug from a fixed socket, minimizing disturbance.

2. Motion Sensor Operation

The motion sensor detects movement within its sensing range and transmits a signal to the caregiver pager.

  • The sensor's infrared induction window detects motion.
  • Once motion is detected, a signal is sent to the pager, triggering the selected alert.
  • The sensor does not emit sound in the patient's room, preventing startling the individual.

Placement Guidelines

Proper placement of the motion sensor is crucial for effective monitoring.

1. Fall Prevention (Under Bed)

For monitoring individuals getting out of bed, place the motion sensor on the floor directly under the bed. Position the sensing window to detect when the patient's foot is about to touch the ground.

2. Room Monitoring (At Door)

To monitor individuals leaving a room, place the motion sensor at the doorway. Ensure the sensor's field of view covers the exit path.

3. Testing and Adjustment

After placement, it is essential to test the sensing range and direction. Adjust the sensor's position or angle using its 360-degree rotating adjustable holder to optimize detection and minimize false alarms. The system is designed to detect when a patient's foot touches the floor, reducing false alarms from incontinence or displacement.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

Replace batteries in both the pager and sensor when performance degrades or the low battery indicator (if present) activates. Use high-quality alkaline batteries for optimal performance.

  • Caregiver Pager: 3 AA batteries
  • Motion Sensor: 3 AAA batteries

2. Cleaning

Wipe the devices with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the units in water.

Troubleshooting

  • No Alert from Pager:
    • Ensure both the sensor and pager are powered on.
    • Check batteries in both units; replace if low.
    • Verify the sensor's self-test completed successfully (indicator light turned off after 20 seconds).
    • Ensure the pager is within the wireless range of the sensor (up to 918ft in open areas). Obstacles like walls can reduce range.
  • False Alarms:
    • Adjust the sensor's position and angle. Ensure it is only detecting the intended movement (e.g., feet touching the floor).
    • Avoid placing the sensor where pets or other unintended movements might trigger it.
  • Alarm Volume Too Low/High:
    • Use the volume adjustment button on the pager to select one of the 5 available volume levels.
  • Device Stops Working:
    • Replace batteries.
    • If using USB power, check the cable and power source.
    • Try powering both units off and on again.
    • If issues persist, contact Nesthao customer support.
