2. General Safety Instructions

Always observe basic safety precautions when using electric tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Read all instructions carefully before operating this router.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, and a dust mask.
  • Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  • Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power, picking up, or carrying the tool.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
  • Secure the workpiece. Use clamps or a vise to hold the workpiece.
  • Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
  • Use the correct tool for the application. Do not force the tool.
  • Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
  • Always use the dust extraction port if available, connected to a suitable vacuum system to minimize dust exposure.

4. Setup and Assembly

4.1 Installing Router Bits

  1. Ensure the router is unplugged from the power source.
  2. Press and hold the spindle lock button (if available) or use the provided wrench to loosen the collet nut.
  3. Insert the router bit into the collet, ensuring at least 3/4 of the shank is seated. Do not bottom out the bit.
  4. Tighten the collet nut firmly using the wrench. Ensure the bit is securely held.

4.2 Adjusting Cutting Depth

  1. Place the router on a flat surface with the desired bit installed.
  2. Loosen the depth locking lever.
  3. Lower the router until the bit touches the workpiece surface.
  4. Adjust the ultra-fine depth adjustment ring or the depth stop rod to the desired cutting depth using the enlarged depth scale.
  5. Tighten the depth locking lever securely to fix the depth.

4.3 Attaching Guides (Parallel Guide, Circular Compass)

The router comes with a parallel guide for straight cuts and a circular compass for circular cuts. Attach these by sliding their rods into the designated slots on the router base and securing them with the provided fasteners.

5. Operating Instructions

Always perform a test cut on a scrap piece of material before routing your final workpiece.

5.1 Powering On and Speed Control

  1. Ensure the router is securely plugged into a 110V power outlet.
  2. Set the desired speed using the variable speed control dial. Higher speeds are generally for smaller bits and softer woods, while lower speeds are for larger bits and harder materials.
  3. Press the ON/OFF switch to start the router. Allow the motor to reach full speed before engaging the workpiece.

5.2 Routing Techniques

  • Direction of Cut: Always feed the router against the rotation of the bit. This provides better control and prevents the router from "climbing" over the workpiece.
  • Feed Rate: Maintain a consistent, moderate feed rate. Forcing the router can lead to poor cut quality, overheating, and kickback.
  • Multiple Passes: For deep cuts, make several shallow passes instead of one deep pass. This reduces strain on the tool and bit, and improves cut quality.
  • Dust Management: Connect a vacuum cleaner to the dust extraction port to keep the work area clean and improve visibility.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your TEENO TC3430 router.

  • Cleaning: After each use, disconnect the router from power and clean off dust and debris from the tool, especially around the motor vents and collet area. Use a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Carbon Brushes: The router includes replacement carbon brushes. Inspect the carbon brushes periodically. If they are worn down to approximately 1/4 inch (6mm) or less, replace both brushes simultaneously. Refer to the specific instructions for brush replacement in the full manual (if available) or consult a qualified service technician.
  • Collet and Nut: Keep the collet and collet nut clean and free of resin buildup to ensure proper bit gripping.
  • Power Cord: Regularly inspect the power cord for any damage. Do not use the tool if the cord is damaged.
  • Storage: Store the router in its rigid carrying case (if included) or a dry, secure location out of reach of children.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your router. For problems not listed here, contact customer support.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Router does not start. No power supply; faulty switch; worn carbon brushes.Check power connection; ensure switch is ON; replace carbon brushes.
Bit slips or comes loose during operation.Collet nut not tightened sufficiently; dirty collet; incorrect bit shank size.Ensure collet nut is tightened firmly with wrench; clean collet and bit shank; use correct bit size (6mm or 8mm).
Poor cut quality (burning, rough edges).Dull bit; incorrect speed setting; too fast feed rate; too deep cut.Replace or sharpen bit; adjust speed; reduce feed rate; make shallower passes.
Depth adjustment does not hold.Depth locking lever not tightened; worn locking mechanism.Ensure locking lever is fully tightened; inspect locking mechanism for wear.
Excessive vibration or noise.Unbalanced bit; loose components; worn bearings.Check bit for damage or proper installation; inspect for loose screws; consult service if bearings are suspected.
