3. Setup
Follow these general steps for initial setup. For detailed instructions, refer to the official User Guide PDF provided by Epson.
- Unpack the Printer: Carefully remove the printer and all packing materials from the box. Remove all protective tapes and films from the printer body, inside the scanner lid, and around the ink tank area.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cord into the printer and then into a wall outlet. Turn on the printer using the power button.
- Fill Ink Tanks: Open the ink tank unit cover. Open the cap for each color ink tank. Take the corresponding ink bottle, twist off the cap, and insert it into the correct tank. The bottles are designed to prevent overfilling and ensure correct color placement. Allow the ink to drain completely into the tank. Repeat for all colors (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow). Close the ink tank caps and the unit cover.
- Initial Ink Charging: Follow the on-screen instructions on the printer's LCD display to initiate the ink charging process. This may take several minutes. Do not turn off the printer or disconnect power during this process.
- Load Paper: Load plain paper into the paper tray. Adjust the paper guides to fit the paper size.
- Install Software: Insert the provided CD-ROM into your computer's drive or download the latest drivers and software from the official Epson support website. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer software, which includes drivers and utilities for printing, scanning, and copying.
- Connect to Computer/Network:
- Wireless Connection: Follow the software installation prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. You may need to enter your network password.
- USB Connection: Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable (not included).
- Perform Test Print: Once setup is complete, perform a test print to ensure the printer is functioning correctly and print quality is optimal.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Ink Refilling
The EcoTank system is designed for easy and mess-free ink refilling. Monitor ink levels regularly using the transparent ink tanks on the front of the printer or through the Epson printer utility on your computer.
- When an ink tank is low, purchase genuine Epson 522 replacement ink bottles.
- Follow the steps outlined in the "Setup" section (Step 3) for filling the ink tanks. Ensure you match the ink color to the correct tank.

5.2 Print Head Cleaning
If print quality declines (e.g., missing lines, faded prints), perform a print head cleaning. This can be done from the printer's control panel or through the Epson printer utility on your computer.
- From Printer: Navigate to "Setup" or "Maintenance" on the LCD screen. Select "Print Head Cleaning" or "Nozzle Check". Follow the on-screen instructions.
- From Computer: Open the Epson printer utility. Select "Maintenance" or "Utility". Choose "Print Head Cleaning" or "Nozzle Check".
- If print quality does not improve after 2-3 cleanings, perform a "Power Cleaning" (refer to your detailed user guide for this option, as it uses more ink).
5.3 General Cleaning
Regularly wipe the exterior of the printer with a soft, damp cloth. Clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner (apply cleaner to cloth, not directly to glass).
