This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Weller WLSK3012A 5-30W Precision Grip Soldering Iron Station. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device and retain it for future reference.
Important Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Always wear appropriate eye protection when soldering.
- Ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace to avoid inhaling solder fumes.
- The soldering iron tip reaches very high temperatures. Avoid direct contact with skin or flammable materials.
- Always place the soldering iron in its integrated safety rest when not in use.
- Do not operate the soldering iron near liquids or in damp conditions.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Unplug the unit from the power outlet when not in use or before performing maintenance.
- Use only Weller-approved replacement parts and accessories.
- Inspect the power cord and plug for damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
Product Overview and Components
The Weller WLSK3012A Soldering Iron Station consists of the following main components:
- Soldering Station Base: Houses the power supply, control knob, and integrated safety rest.
- Soldering Iron: The handheld tool with a heating element and replaceable tip.
- Soldering Tip: The part that heats up and melts solder.
- Power Cord: Connects the station to an electrical outlet.

Setup Instructions
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts listed in the "Product Overview" section are present.
- Position the Station: Place the soldering station base on a stable, heat-resistant, and non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated area.
- Connect Power: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
- Prepare Soldering Tip: Ensure a soldering tip is securely installed in the soldering iron. If not, refer to the "Tip Replacement" section.
- Prepare Sponge (if included): If your station includes a cleaning sponge, dampen it slightly with water and place it in the designated tray on the station base.
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On and Adjusting Wattage
- Turn On: Flip the power switch on the soldering station base to the "ON" position. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Set Wattage: Rotate the variable wattage dial to select the desired power output (5W to 30W). Start with a lower setting for delicate work and increase for larger components or faster heating.
- Heat-Up Time: Allow a few minutes for the soldering iron tip to reach the selected operating temperature.
2. Soldering Technique
- Clean Tip: Before each use, wipe the hot soldering tip on a damp sponge or brass wool cleaner to remove old solder and oxidation.
- Tinning the Tip: Apply a small amount of fresh solder to the clean tip. This "tins" the tip, improving heat transfer and preventing oxidation.
- Apply Heat: Place the tinned tip against both the component lead and the circuit board pad simultaneously. Allow a moment for both surfaces to heat up.
- Apply Solder: Feed solder onto the heated joint, not directly onto the iron tip. The solder should flow smoothly and evenly around the joint.
- Remove Solder and Iron: Once sufficient solder has flowed, remove the solder wire first, then lift the soldering iron from the joint. Allow the joint to cool undisturbed.

Maintenance
1. Tip Cleaning and Tinning
- Regularly clean the soldering tip using a damp sponge or brass wool.
- Always re-tin the tip with fresh solder after cleaning and before storing the iron. This protects the tip from oxidation and extends its lifespan.
2. Tip Replacement
To replace a worn or damaged soldering tip:
- Ensure the soldering iron is unplugged and completely cool.
- Carefully unscrew the retaining nut or collar that holds the tip in place.
- Remove the old tip.
- Insert the new Weller-compatible tip, ensuring it is fully seated.
- Securely tighten the retaining nut or collar. Do not overtighten.
- After replacement, power on the iron and tin the new tip immediately.

3. General Cleaning
- Wipe the exterior of the soldering station and iron with a soft, dry cloth.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Iron does not heat up. | No power, faulty connection, damaged heating element. | Check power cord connection and outlet. Ensure power switch is ON. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Solder does not melt or flows poorly. | Tip not hot enough, oxidized tip, incorrect wattage setting. | Increase wattage setting. Clean and re-tin the tip. Ensure tip is fully seated. |
| Tip oxidizes quickly. | Tip not tinned, excessive heat, improper cleaning. | Always tin the tip. Reduce wattage if possible. Use damp sponge or brass wool for cleaning. |
