1. Introduction

Welcome to your new Bunn SBS Speed Brew Select 10-Cup Coffee Maker. This manual provides essential information for the safe operation, setup, use, and maintenance of your coffee maker. The BUNN Speed Brew is designed to deliver café-quality coffee quickly and efficiently.

The core of the Speed Brew technology is an internal commercial-grade stainless steel hot water tank that maintains 70 ounces of water at an optimal brewing temperature. This ensures that hot water is always ready, allowing you to brew a full carafe in approximately 4 minutes, or a travel mug in 2 minutes, significantly faster than conventional coffee makers.

2. Important Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before using your coffee maker. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the appliance.

• Electrical Safety: Do not immerse the coffee maker, cord, or plug in water or other liquids. Ensure the appliance is connected to a grounded outlet with the correct voltage (120V).
• Hot Surfaces: The warming plate and internal hot water tank become very hot during operation. Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Use handles and knobs.
• Children: Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
• Proper Placement: Place the coffee maker on a stable, level surface, away from the edge of the countertop. Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation.
• Cord Safety: Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.

3. Initial Setup

3.1 Unpacking

• Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffee maker.
• Inspect the appliance for any damage. Do not use if damaged.
• Wash the carafe and filter funnel with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

3.2 First Use & Conditioning

Before brewing coffee, the internal hot water tank must be filled and heated. This process takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

• Ensure the coffee maker is unplugged.
• Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
• Open the lid of the coffee maker.
• Pour two full carafes of cold, fresh water into the top reservoir. The water will flow into the internal hot water tank.
• Close the lid.
• IMPORTANT: Plug the coffee maker into a grounded 120V outlet. This is the last step.
• Turn on the main power switch (usually located on the side or back). The warming plate switch should also be turned on if you desire to keep the carafe warm.
• Allow 15-20 minutes for the water in the internal tank to heat to the optimal brewing temperature. You may hear some gurgling sounds as the water heats.
• Once heated, the coffee maker is ready for use. It is recommended to run one or two cycles with just water (no coffee grounds) to flush out any manufacturing residues.

4. Operating Instructions

Your Bunn Speed Brew is designed for quick and consistent brewing once the initial setup is complete and the internal tank is hot.

4.1 Brewing a Full Carafe (10 Cups)

• Ensure the coffee maker is plugged in and the main power switch is ON, indicating the internal tank is hot.
• Place a BUNN filter (which are 1/4" taller than standard filters to prevent overflow) into the filter funnel.
• Add your desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. For a full 10-cup carafe, typically use 8-10 tablespoons of coffee.
• Slide the filter funnel into its position under the sprayhead.
• Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
• Open the lid of the coffee maker.
• Pour cold, fresh water into the top reservoir using the carafe. The amount of water poured in will be the amount of coffee brewed. For a full carafe, fill the carafe to the 10-cup mark. The pour-in bowl features a water level indicator to assist.
• Close the lid. Brewing will begin immediately as the fresh water displaces the hot water from the internal tank.
• The coffee will brew into the carafe in approximately 4 minutes.
• Once brewing is complete, the warming plate will keep your coffee at an optimal serving temperature if the warming plate switch is on.

4.2 Brewing a Travel Mug (20 oz)

• Follow steps 1-4 from 'Brewing a Full Carafe'.
• Place your travel mug on the warming plate, ensuring it can accommodate the coffee flow.
• Open the lid of the coffee maker.
• Pour 20 ounces of cold, fresh water into the top reservoir.
• Close the lid. Brewing will begin immediately.
• Your travel mug will be filled in approximately 2 minutes.

5. Care and Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Bunn coffee maker.

5.1 Daily Cleaning

• Carafe: Wash the carafe with warm, soapy water after each use. Rinse thoroughly. The exclusive drip-free carafe design ensures a clean pour.
• Filter Funnel: Remove and rinse the filter funnel after each use.
• Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.

5.2 Descaling (Mineral Deposit Removal)

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect performance. Descale your coffee maker every 3-6 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

• Ensure the coffee maker is cool and unplugged.
• Remove any coffee grounds and filter from the funnel.
• Pour a solution of one part white vinegar to two parts water into the top reservoir until the tank is full.
• Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
• Plug in the coffee maker and turn on the main power switch. Allow the solution to heat for 15-20 minutes.
• Open and close the lid to initiate a brew cycle. Repeat this process until the entire solution has passed through the machine.
• Run several cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse out any remaining vinegar solution.

5.3 Water Tank Refill

Due to the constantly heated internal tank, some water will evaporate over time. It is recommended to add fresh water to the tank every other day or as needed to maintain the optimal water level.
