4. Setup

4.1. Charging the Battery

1. Connect the AC adapter to the BC-223 charging cradle.
2. Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.
3. Place the BP-306 Li-ion battery pack into the charging cradle. Ensure it is seated correctly.
4. The charging indicator on the cradle will illuminate, indicating that charging has begun. A full charge typically takes several hours.

4.2. Installing the Battery

1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
2. Align the battery pack with the battery compartment on the rear of the radio.
3. Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely.
4. Ensure the battery release latch is fully engaged to prevent accidental detachment.

4.3. Initial Power On and MMSI Registration

To fully utilize the DSC features of your M94D, you must register your Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) number. This is a unique nine-digit number assigned to your vessel by your national telecommunications authority.

1. Press and hold the POWER button to turn on the radio.

5. Operating the Radio

5.1. Basic Operation

• Power On/Off: Press and hold the POWER button.
• Volume Adjustment: Use the VOL button and navigation keys to adjust the audio output level.
• Squelch Adjustment: Use the SQL button and navigation keys to set the squelch level, which filters out weak signals and noise.
• Channel Selection: Use the up/down navigation keys to change channels. Press the 16/C button to quickly switch to Channel 16 (Distress and Calling) or return to your last selected channel.

5.2. AIS Functionality

• Routine Calls: Use the MENU to access DSC call functions for individual or group calls.

5.4. Float 'N Flash

Should your M94D accidentally fall into the water, the Float 'N Flash feature will activate automatically. A flashing LED light will help you locate the radio, even in low light conditions or at night. This feature works even if the radio is powered off.
