4. Operating the Scanner

4.1 Scanning Modes

The scanner offers two primary scanning modes:

  • Trigger Mode: Press the trigger button to initiate a scan. Release the button to end the reading.
  • Auto-Sense Mode: Scan the specific barcode for "Auto Sense Mode" (usually found in the user guide's setup section) to enable hands-free automatic scanning when a barcode is detected in front of the scanner.

4.2 Data Upload Modes

Choose how the scanned data is transferred to your device:

  • Instant Upload Mode: Barcodes are uploaded directly to your computer or device immediately after scanning.
  • Storage Mode: Scanned barcodes are stored in the scanner's internal memory (up to 10,000 barcodes). Data can be uploaded later when a connection to a computer is available.

4.3 Decoding Capabilities

This CCD barcode reader is designed to scan 1D barcodes efficiently. It can read barcodes directly from paper, computer screens, smartphones, or tablets. It is also effective at reading barcodes with poor printing or minor scratches.

Supported 1D Code Symbologies include: Codabar, Code 11, Code93, MSI, Code 128, UCC/EAN-128, Code 39, EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, ISBN, Industrial 25, Interleaved 25, Standard25.

4.4 Customization Functions

The scanner offers multiple configuration options by scanning specific programming barcodes (refer to the full user guide for a complete list). These include:

  • Adding prefixes or suffixes to scanned data.
  • Hiding characters from the front or back of the scanned data.
  • Adding keyboard keys (e.g., TAB, CR) to the scanning operation.
  • Changing the case of characters (capital/lower case).
  • Enabling or disabling specific barcode types.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your NETUM M6S barcode scanner, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep the scanner and its components clean. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. For the scanning window, use a lint-free cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner if necessary.
  • Avoid exposing the scanner to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Do not drop the scanner or subject it to strong impacts.
  • Store the scanner in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Ensure the battery is charged regularly to maintain its health, especially if storing for extended periods.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your NETUM M6S barcode scanner, please refer to the following common solutions:

6.1 Scanner Not Connecting

  • Check Cables/Dongle: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected or the 2.4G wireless dongle is properly inserted into a working USB port.
  • Bluetooth Pairing: If using Bluetooth, ensure the scanner is in pairing mode (scan the "Bluetooth Transmission" barcode) and visible in your device's Bluetooth settings. Try unpairing and re-pairing if issues persist.
  • Battery Level: A low battery can prevent connection. Charge the scanner fully.

6.2 Barcodes Not Scanning

  • Correct Barcode Type: Ensure the barcode is a supported 1D symbology. This scanner does not read 2D/QR codes.
  • Scanning Distance: Adjust the distance between the scanner and the barcode.
  • Lighting Conditions: Ensure adequate lighting, but avoid direct glare on the barcode.
  • Barcode Quality: While the scanner can read poorly printed or scratched barcodes, severely damaged barcodes may not be readable.
  • Scanning Mode: Verify you are in the correct scanning mode (Trigger or Auto-Sense).

6.3 Incorrect Data Output (e.g., extra digits)

  • Customization Settings: If the scanner is adding extra characters or behaving unexpectedly, it might be due to a previously scanned configuration barcode (e="e.g.", adding prefix/suffix). Refer to the full user guide to reset settings or adjust specific configurations.
  • Contact Support: For specific issues like unwanted extra digits (e="e.g.", with USPS tracking numbers as mentioned by a user), contact NETUM customer support. They can provide specific programming barcodes to resolve such issues.
