Introduction

The Newland HR52 Bonito is a high-performance 2D CMOS Mega Pixel Handheld Reader designed for retail environments. This device is capable of reading various 1D and 2D barcodes, including DotCode, and features an autosense function for efficient operation. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Newland HR52 Bonito Handheld Reader:

1. Unpack the Device: Carefully remove the HR52 Bonito reader and its coiled USB cable from the packaging.
2. Connect to Host Device: Insert the USB connector of the coiled cable into an available USB port on your laptop or desktop computer.
3. Driver Installation (Plug & Play): The device is typically plug-and-play. Your operating system should automatically detect and install the necessary drivers. Wait for the installation to complete.
4. Verify Connection: Once connected, the scanner may emit a short beep or an indicator light may illuminate, signifying it is ready for use.

No additional power adapter is required as the device is powered via the USB connection (Operating Voltage: 5 Volts).

Operating Instructions

The HR52 Bonito is designed for intuitive operation. Here's how to use it:

• Scanning Barcodes:
  • Point the scanning window of the reader towards the barcode you wish to scan.
  • Press and hold the yellow trigger button located on the handle. A red aiming beam or illumination will appear.
  • Position the aiming beam over the center of the barcode.
  • Once the barcode is successfully read, the scanner will typically emit a beep and/or an indicator light will flash. The scanned data will be transmitted to your connected computer as if typed from a keyboard.
• Autosense Mode: The HR52 Bonito supports an autosense feature. When enabled, the scanner can automatically detect a barcode presented within its field of view without requiring the trigger button to be pressed. This is ideal for hands-free operation using an optional stand (not included).
• Supported Barcodes: This reader supports a wide range of 1D and 2D symbologies, including but not limited to UPC/EAN, Code 39, Code 128, QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, and DotCode.

Maintenance

• Cleaning the Scanning Window:
  • Ensure the device is disconnected from the power source (USB port) before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

  • Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the plastic and optical components.
