4. Installation

4.1 Mounting Location

Choose a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Common locations include under a seat, in the trunk, or behind a panel. Ensure there is sufficient space around the amplifier for airflow.

4.2 Wiring Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the vehicle's battery negative terminal is disconnected.

4.2.1 Power Wiring

  • Power (BATT+): Connect a 4-gauge power cable directly from the positive terminal of the car battery to the amplifier's BATT+ terminal. Install an appropriate fuse (not included) within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery.
  • Ground (GND): Connect a 4-gauge ground cable from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle chassis. Ensure a solid electrical connection.
  • Remote (REM): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the amplifier's REM terminal. This wire turns the amplifier on and off with your head unit.

4.2.2 RCA Input Connections

Connect RCA cables from your head unit's pre-amp outputs to the corresponding RCA input jacks on the amplifier. For 5-channel operation, connect front, rear, and subwoofer RCA outputs from your head unit.

4.2.3 Speaker Output Connections

Connect your speakers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for all speakers. Refer to the amplifier's specifications for minimum impedance requirements.

  • Channels 1-4: Connect your front and rear speakers.
  • Channel 5 (Subwoofer): Connect your subwoofer.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Initial Setup and Adjustments

  1. Gain Control: Start with the gain control set to minimum. Play a familiar music track at a moderate volume on your head unit. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain control until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly.
  2. Crossover Settings:
    • High-Pass Filter (HPF): For full-range speakers (channels 1-4), set the HPF to filter out low frequencies that speakers cannot reproduce effectively (e.g., 80 Hz - 120 Hz).
    • Low-Pass Filter (LPF): For the subwoofer channel (channel 5), set the LPF to allow only low frequencies to pass through (e.g., 80 Hz - 120 Hz).
  3. Bass Boost: Use the selectable bass boost control sparingly. Excessive bass boost can lead to distortion and potential speaker damage. Adjust to your preference while monitoring for clarity.

5.2 Powering On/Off

The amplifier will automatically power on when your head unit is turned on (via the remote turn-on wire) and power off when the head unit is turned off.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the amplifier's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the amplifier's cooling fins are free from dust and debris to maintain proper heat dissipation.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power / Amplifier does not turn on
  • Blown fuse
  • Loose power or ground connection
  • Remote wire not connected or faulty
  • Check and replace fuse if necessary
  • Verify all power and ground connections are secure
  • Check remote wire connection and voltage
No Sound
  • RCA cables not connected or faulty
  • Speaker wires not connected or shorted
  • Head unit output issues
  • Check RCA connections and test cables
  • Verify speaker wire connections and check for shorts
  • Ensure head unit is producing audio output
