Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack the Router: Carefully remove the Linksys E9450 router, power adapter, and Ethernet cable from the packaging.
  2. Position the Router: Place the router in a central location in your home, away from obstructions and large metal objects, to maximize WiFi coverage.
  3. Connect to Modem: Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the yellow Internet (WAN) port on the back of the E9450 router and the other end to your modem's Ethernet port.
  4. Power On: Connect the power adapter to the router's power port and plug it into an electrical outlet. Wait for the router's indicator lights to stabilize (usually solid blue for power and internet).
  5. Initial Setup:
    • Via Web Browser: Connect your computer or mobile device to the router's default WiFi network (SSID and password are typically found on a label on the router). Open a web browser and navigate to linksyssmartwifi.com or the router's default IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup, including creating a new network name (SSID) and password.
    • Via Linksys App: Download the Linksys app from your device's app store. Open the app and follow the guided setup process.
  6. Connect Devices: Once the router is set up, connect your wireless devices using the new WiFi network name and password. For devices supporting WPS, press the WPS button on the router and then activate WPS on your device to establish a connection easily.

Operating Instructions

Dual-Band WiFi Operation

The Linksys E9450 is a dual-band router, meaning it broadcasts WiFi signals on two different frequency bands: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This allows for optimized performance:

  • 2.4 GHz Band: Provides wider coverage and better penetration through walls, ideal for general internet browsing, email, and devices further away from the router.
  • 5 GHz Band: Offers faster speeds and less interference, suitable for high-bandwidth activities like 4K video streaming, online gaming, and connecting devices closer to the router.

Your devices will automatically connect to the most suitable band, or you can manually select a band if your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for each.

Parental Controls

Manage and restrict internet access for specific devices or users on your network. This feature allows you to block websites, set internet access schedules, and pause internet access for individual devices. Access these settings through the Linksys app or web interface.

Guest Access

Create a separate, secure WiFi network for guests. This keeps your main network private and secure while providing internet access to visitors. Guest networks can be configured with their own password and can be isolated from your main network's devices.

Maintenance

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates for your router. Firmware updates often include performance improvements, security patches, and new features. You can usually find these updates through the Linksys app or the router's web interface.
  • Router Placement: Ensure the router remains in an open, central location to maintain optimal signal strength and coverage. Avoid placing it near large metal objects, concrete walls, or other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Rebooting: Periodically rebooting your router (unplugging it for 10-15 seconds and plugging it back in) can help resolve minor connectivity issues and improve performance.
  • Cleaning: Keep the router clean and free of dust to ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.

Troubleshooting

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Check if your modem is working correctly.
    • Ensure all cables are securely connected to the router and modem.
    • Reboot both your modem and router.
    • Verify your internet service provider (ISP) connection.
  • Slow WiFi Speed:
    • Ensure your devices are connected to the appropriate WiFi band (5 GHz for faster speeds).
    • Reduce the number of active devices or bandwidth-intensive activities.
    • Check for interference from other electronic devices.
    • Consider repositioning the router for better signal strength.
  • Cannot Connect to WiFi:
    • Double-check your WiFi password.
    • Ensure the WiFi indicator light on the router is on.
    • Try rebooting the router.
    • If using WPS, ensure both devices are in WPS mode.
  • Forgotten Admin Password: If you forget your router's administration password, you may need to perform a factory reset. Refer to the router's documentation or Linksys support for specific instructions, as this will erase all custom settings.
