Operating Your Smart Hub

The Arlo Smart Hub acts as the central communication point for your Arlo cameras. It provides several benefits:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: The hub offers long-range connectivity, allowing your cameras to be placed further from your router while maintaining a strong signal.
  • Improved Battery Life: By offloading some network tasks from the cameras to the hub, it helps extend the battery life of your Arlo cameras.
  • Local Storage (Optional): The VMB5000 Smart Hub supports local storage via a USB drive (sold separately), allowing you to record video directly to the hub without a cloud subscription. Insert a compatible USB 2.0 drive into the USB port on the back of the hub.
  • Security: It provides a secure connection for your Arlo cameras, ensuring your video streams are protected.

Manage your cameras and hub settings through the Arlo mobile application or the Arlo web portal.

Maintenance

  • Keep Clean: Gently wipe the exterior of the hub with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the hub is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the Arlo app. Updates provide new features, bug fixes, and security enhancements.
  • Power Cycle: If the hub is unresponsive, try power cycling it by unplugging the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.
