In its generic mode, the SmartPad can also function as a controller for virtually any other DJ application that utilizes the MIDI protocol. 5. Setup

5.1 Connecting to a Computer

  1. Locate the USB port on the rear of your Orca-Pad48.
  2. Connect one end of the included USB cable to the Orca-Pad48.
  3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer (PC or Mac).
  4. The Orca-Pad48 is a class-compliant MIDI device and typically does not require special drivers for basic functionality. Your operating system should automatically recognize it.

To use the Orca-Pad48 with your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or other music software (e.g., Ableton Live), you will need to configure it within the software's preferences:

6. Operating the Orca-Pad48

6.1 Basic Operation

Once connected and configured, the Orca-Pad48 sends MIDI messages to your software. The pads, faders, and knobs can be assigned to control various parameters within your DAW or virtual instruments.

6.2 Pad Functionality

The 48 pads are velocity-sensitive, meaning they respond to how hard you strike them, allowing for expressive performances. They can be used to trigger drum sounds, samples, chords, or notes.

6.3 Programmable Controls

The 8 faders, 8 rotary knobs, and 16 keys are fully programmable. This allows you to customize their functions to suit your workflow. You can assign them to control mixer volumes, pan, effect sends, filter cutoffs, or any other MIDI-assignable parameter in your software.

6.4 MIDI Mapping

MIDI mapping is the process of assigning physical controls on your Orca-Pad48 to specific functions within your music software. Most DAWs offer a simple MIDI learn function:

  1. Activate MIDI learn mode in your software.
  2. Click on the parameter you wish to control (e.g., a fader in your software's mixer).
  3. Move the corresponding fader or knob on your Orca-Pad48. The software should automatically link the two.
