To use the Orca-Pad48 with your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) or other music software (e.g., Ableton Live), you will need to configure it within the software's preferences:
Once connected and configured, the Orca-Pad48 sends MIDI messages to your software. The pads, faders, and knobs can be assigned to control various parameters within your DAW or virtual instruments.
The 48 pads are velocity-sensitive, meaning they respond to how hard you strike them, allowing for expressive performances. They can be used to trigger drum sounds, samples, chords, or notes.
The 8 faders, 8 rotary knobs, and 16 keys are fully programmable. This allows you to customize their functions to suit your workflow. You can assign them to control mixer volumes, pan, effect sends, filter cutoffs, or any other MIDI-assignable parameter in your software.
MIDI mapping is the process of assigning physical controls on your Orca-Pad48 to specific functions within your music software. Most DAWs offer a simple MIDI learn function:
Proper care will extend the life of your Orca-Pad48:
If you encounter issues with your Orca-Pad48, please refer to the table below:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device not recognized by computer/DAW. | Loose USB connection, incorrect software settings, faulty USB port. | Check USB cable connection. Try a different USB port. Verify MIDI input settings in your DAW. Restart computer and device. |
| Pads/Faders/Knobs not responding. | Incorrect MIDI mapping, software not receiving MIDI data. | Ensure the device is enabled as a MIDI input in your DAW. Re-map controls if necessary. Check if the device is in the correct operating mode (e.g., generic vs. specific DAW mode). |
| Pads do not light up as expected. | Software configuration issue, specific lighting modes. | Some software editors for the Orca-Pad48 may have limitations or bugs regarding LED control. Ensure you are using the latest version of any accompanying software. If using default settings, pads may only light up when pressed (gate mode). |
| Device freezes or behaves erratically. | Software conflict, firmware issue, power instability. | Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Restart your computer and DAW. Check the manufacturer's website for any firmware updates. |
