4.2 Connecting the FPC Cable
The FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) cable connects the display to the Raspberry Pi's DSI interface. Handle with care to avoid damage.
- Lift Plastic Piece: Gently lift the small plastic locking piece on the DSI interface connector on both the display and the Raspberry Pi.
- Insert FPC Cable: Carefully insert the FPC cable into the DSI connector, ensuring the metallic contacts on the cable face the contacts within the connector. The cable should be fully seated.
- Secure Cable: Push the plastic locking piece back down to securely hold the ribbon cable in place.

Image 4.2: Step-by-step instructions for connecting the FPC cable, including lifting the connector lock, inserting the cable, and securing it. A diagram of a Raspberry Pi highlights areas for RAM, LAN, and CPU, where heatsinks can be applied.
NOTICE: Forcing the FPC cable into the connector or improper handling can strip the ribbon cable contacts or cause damage to your device. Ensure correct orientation and gentle insertion.
4.3 Heatsink Installation (Optional)
For improved heat dissipation and prolonged Raspberry Pi lifespan, apply the included heatsinks to the CPU, RAM, and LAN chip on your Raspberry Pi board. Ensure surfaces are clean before application.
5. Operating Instructions
The CUQI 5-inch DSI Touch Screen is designed for plug-and-play operation with compatible Raspberry Pi operating systems.
5.1 Software Compatibility
- Raspbian: Supports multi-touch functionality.
- Ubuntu, Kali, Retropie: Support single-touch functionality.
No additional driver installation is required for these supported operating systems. The display will function automatically upon boot.

5.2 Backlight Adjustment
The display features adjustable brightness and contrast of the backlight. This can typically be controlled via software settings within your Raspberry Pi's operating system or through specific commands, depending on the OS configuration.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your display, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a screen-cleaning solution to clean the display surface. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
- Handling: Always handle the display by its edges. Avoid applying excessive pressure to the screen surface.
- Storage: When not in use, store the display in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- FPC Cable: Ensure the FPC cable remains securely connected and is not bent or creased sharply, as this can damage the internal conductors.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your CUQI 5-inch DSI Touch Screen, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Display/Blank Screen:
- Ensure the FPC cable is correctly and securely inserted into both the display and the Raspberry Pi's DSI port. Refer to Section 4.2.
- Verify that your Raspberry Pi is powered on and functioning correctly.
- Confirm that your Raspberry Pi model is compatible (not Pi Zero).
- Check if the operating system on your Raspberry Pi is correctly configured for DSI output.
- Touch Functionality Not Working:
- Ensure the FPC cable is properly connected. The touch data is also transmitted via this cable.
- Verify that your operating system supports touch input and is configured correctly. Some OS versions may require specific settings for touch.
- Note that Ubuntu, Kali, and Retropie support single-touch only.
- Flickering or Distorted Image:
- Check the FPC cable for any damage or improper connection.
- Ensure the power supply to your Raspberry Pi is stable and sufficient.
- Incompatibility with Raspberry Pi Zero or PC/Laptop:
- This display is specifically designed for Raspberry Pi models with a DSI interface (2B/3B/4B/5). It is not compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero or standard laptops/PCs.
8. Important Notes and Warnings
- This display is exclusively compatible with Raspberry Pi models featuring a DSI interface (e.g., Pi 2B, 3B, 4B, 5). It is not compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero or standard personal computers/laptops.
- Exercise extreme caution when installing the FPC cable. Forcing the cable or incorrect insertion can permanently damage the cable connectors or the device itself.
- The included heatsinks are recommended for installation on your Raspberry Pi's CPU, RAM, and LAN chip to improve thermal management.
- Adjustable brightness and contrast are available, typically through software settings within the Raspberry Pi operating system.
