Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your Singer M320L Serenade Sewing Machine. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the machine to ensure proper setup, operation, and maintenance. Keep this manual for future reference.
The Singer M320L is designed for everyday sewing tasks, offering a selection of 23 stitch patterns, including 10 decorative stitches. Its lightweight design and robust metal frame make it both portable and durable, featuring a clear stitch selection and a quick-change presser foot function. Stitch length is adjustable.
Important Safety Instructions
When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using this sewing machine.
- Keep fingers away from all moving parts. Special care is required around the sewing machine needle.
- Always use the proper needle plate. The wrong plate can cause the needle to break.
- Do not pull or push fabric while stitching. This may deflect the needle, causing it to break.
- Switch the sewing machine off when making any adjustments in the needle area, such as threading the needle, changing the needle, threading the bobbin, or changing the presser foot.
- Always unplug the sewing machine from the electrical outlet when removing covers, lubricating, or when making any other user servicing adjustments mentioned in the instruction manual.
- Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.

- Place the machine on a stable, flat surface.
- Ensure adequate lighting for your work area.
- Connect the power cord to the machine and then to a suitable electrical outlet (230V).
Attaching the Foot Controller
The foot controller regulates the sewing speed. Plug the foot controller into the designated receptacle on the machine.
Winding the Bobbin
- Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
- Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the upper thread guide and around the bobbin winding tension disc.
- Wind the thread clockwise a few times around the bobbin.
- Push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
- Start the machine by pressing the foot controller. The bobbin will wind automatically.
- Once full, stop the machine, cut the thread, and push the bobbin winder spindle back to the left.
Inserting the Bobbin
- Open the bobbin cover plate.
- Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
- Guide the thread through the tension spring and into the thread guide slot.
- Close the bobbin cover plate.
Threading the Upper Thread
- Raise the presser foot lifter.
- Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
- Guide the thread through the upper thread guide.
- Follow the numbered threading path down the front of the machine, around the tension discs, and up to the take-up lever.
- Thread the take-up lever from right to left.
- Continue guiding the thread down through the remaining thread guides to the needle.
- Use the automatic needle threader (if applicable) or manually thread the needle from front to back.
- Pull about 6 inches of thread through the needle eye.
Note: The machine features an automatic needle threader for convenience. Refer to the specific instructions for its use if needed.
Operating Instructions

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your sewing machine.
Cleaning
- Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
- Use the provided lint brush to remove lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
Lubrication
Refer to the detailed lubrication instructions in the full manual if specific points require oiling. Generally, modern sewing machines like the M320L require minimal user lubrication.
Needle Replacement
Replace the needle regularly, especially if it becomes bent, dull, or if you notice skipped stitches. Always use needles appropriate for your fabric type.
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Loosen the needle clamp screw.
- Remove the old needle.
- Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
- Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Skipped Stitches | Incorrectly inserted needle, bent or dull needle, incorrect needle size for fabric, improper threading. | Re-insert needle correctly, replace needle, use appropriate needle, re-thread machine. |
| Thread Breaking | Incorrect upper thread tension, poor quality thread, improperly wound bobbin, burrs on needle plate or bobbin case. | Adjust tension, use quality thread, re-wind bobbin, check for burrs and clean. |
| Fabric Puckering | Too much upper thread tension, incorrect stitch length for fabric, dull needle. | Reduce upper thread tension, adjust stitch length, replace needle. |
| Machine Not Starting | Power cord not plugged in, foot controller not connected, main power switch off. | Check all power connections, ensure main switch is on. |
