3. Setup

The BrosTrend WiFi Bridge offers two primary methods for setup: WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) for quick configuration, and a Web User Interface (Web UI) for more advanced settings.

3.1. WPS Setup (Recommended for quick connection)

  1. Power On: Plug the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge into a power outlet near your Wi-Fi router. Wait for the PWR LED to light up.
  2. Activate WPS on Router: Press the WPS button on your Wi-Fi router. Refer to your router's manual for the exact location and procedure.
  3. Activate WPS on Bridge: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge. The WPS LED on the bridge will blink during the connection process.
  4. Verify Connection: Once connected, the Signal LED on the bridge will light up, indicating a successful connection to your Wi-Fi network.
  5. Connect Wired Device: Connect your Ethernet-enabled device (e.g., Smart TV, game console) to the RJ45 port on the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge using an Ethernet cable.

3.2. Web UI Setup (For advanced configuration or if WPS fails)

  1. Initial Connection: Plug the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge into a power outlet. Connect your computer directly to the bridge's RJ45 port using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Access Web UI: Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (usually found in the quick start guide or on the device label) or the default domain name (e.g., http://ap.setup).
  3. Login: Enter the default username and password (typically 'admin' for both, refer to the quick start guide).
  4. Select Wi-Fi Network: Follow the on-screen wizard to scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your desired network (2.4GHz or 5GHz) and enter its password.
  5. Apply Settings: Save the settings. The bridge will restart.
  6. Verify Connection: Disconnect your computer from the bridge. The Signal LED on the bridge should light up. You can now connect your wired device to the bridge.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge is successfully set up and connected to your Wi-Fi network, it functions as a wireless adapter for any device connected to its Ethernet port.

4.1. Connecting Wired Devices

Simply connect an Ethernet cable from your wired device (e.g., desktop PC, gaming console, network printer, smart TV, Blu-ray player) to the RJ45 port on the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge. The device will automatically establish a network connection through the Wi-Fi bridge.

4.2. Optimizing Performance

  • Placement: For optimal signal strength, place the WiFi Bridge within a reasonable range of your main Wi-Fi router, avoiding physical obstructions like thick walls or large metal objects.
  • Antenna Adjustment: Adjust the external antennas for the best signal reception. Experiment with different angles to find the most effective configuration.
  • Band Selection: If using Web UI setup, consider connecting to the 5GHz band for higher speeds, especially for bandwidth-intensive activities like streaming or gaming, provided your router supports it and the bridge is within close range. The 2.4GHz band offers better range and penetration through obstacles.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BrosTrend WiFi Bridge, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation holes on the device are not blocked to prevent overheating.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the BrosTrend official website for any available firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within recommended temperature and humidity ranges. Avoid exposing it to extreme heat, cold, or moisture.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BrosTrend WiFi Bridge, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

6.1. No Power (PWR LED Off)

  • Ensure the device is securely plugged into a working power outlet.
  • Try plugging another device into the same outlet to confirm it has power.

6.2. No Wi-Fi Connection (Signal LED Off)

  • Check WPS Status: If using WPS, ensure the WPS LED on the bridge and your router blinked and then became solid (or off, depending on router model) to indicate a successful connection.
  • Router Range: Move the bridge closer to your Wi-Fi router to rule out range issues.
  • Re-configure: Attempt the WPS or Web UI setup process again.
  • Router Settings: Verify that your router's Wi-Fi is enabled and broadcasting.

6.3. Wired Device Not Connecting to Internet

  • Ethernet Cable: Ensure the Ethernet cable connecting your device to the bridge is securely plugged in at both ends and is not damaged.
  • Bridge Connection: Confirm the BrosTrend WiFi Bridge itself is successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network (Signal LED is on).
  • Device Settings: Check your wired device's network settings to ensure it is configured to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).

6.4. Slow Speeds

  • Interference: Minimize interference from other electronic devices (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
  • Distance: The further the bridge is from the router, the slower the speed. Consider relocating the bridge.
  • Band Usage: If possible, use the 5GHz band for higher speeds, as it generally has less interference than 2.4GHz.

6.5. Resetting the Device

If issues persist, you may need to reset the bridge to its factory default settings. Locate the small reset hole on the device (often next to the Ethernet port). Use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash. After resetting, you will need to re-configure the device.
