4. Setup Instructions
- Assemble the Filter: Ensure the filter plate (2) is correctly seated inside the filter body (4). Attach the water pump (9) to the bottom of the filter body. Secure the inlet basket (8) and inlet sponge (6) to the water pump's intake. Place the filter cover (1) on top.
- Attach Hanger/Suction Cups: Attach the hanger (5) to the filter body if you plan to hang it on the tank rim. Alternatively, use the integrated suction cups on the back of the filter body to secure it to the inside wall of your aquarium.

- Position in Tank: Place the filter inside your aquarium, ensuring it is fully submerged. The minimum water line for proper operation is 1.9 inches (4.8 cm). This low water line capability makes it suitable for amphibian tanks.
- Connect Power: Once the filter is securely placed and fully submerged, connect the power plug (7) to a suitable electrical outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
After connecting the power, the filter will begin to operate. The 5W water pump provides a stable flow of 132 GPH (gallons per hour), ensuring efficient water circulation and filtration. The design promotes quiet operation, suitable for both freshwater and saltwater environments.
The waterfall design of the water outlet aids in water aeration, contributing to a healthier aquatic environment.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the efficient operation and longevity of your PULACO filter. It is recommended to clean the filter every 2 weeks to maintain standard filtration efficiency.
Cleaning Procedure:
- Disconnect Power: Always unplug the filter from the power outlet before cleaning.
- Remove Filter from Tank: Carefully remove the filter from the aquarium.
- Disassemble Filter: Remove the filter cover, then carefully extract the filter plate and inlet sponge.
- Clean Filter Media: The filter utilizes a 3-layer filtration plate.

Figure 6: Diagram illustrating the 3-layer filtration plate components.
- Bio-Cotton Layers: Rinse the bio-cotton layers (top and bottom) thoroughly under clean water to remove trapped debris.
- Micro Activated Carbon: The activated carbon layer helps to clean water smell. Rinse it gently. Activated carbon has a limited lifespan and should be replaced periodically (e.g., monthly) for optimal odor removal.
- Clean Inlet Sponge: Rinse the inlet sponge to remove any accumulated particles.
- Clean Pump Impeller: Periodically, remove the water pump and clean the impeller to ensure smooth operation and prevent blockages.
- Reassemble and Reinstall: Reassemble all parts in reverse order and place the filter back into the aquarium, ensuring it is fully submerged before reconnecting power.
