Setup

1. Mask Preparation

Before first use, it is recommended to clean the mask lenses to prevent fogging. Apply a small amount of non-abrasive toothpaste (not gel) to the inside of the lenses and gently rub with your finger for a few minutes. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. This removes any manufacturing residue.

2. Mask Fit and Adjustment

  1. Place the mask gently on your face without the strap. Inhale slightly through your nose; the mask should suction to your face without holding it. If it does not, adjust the position or check for hair under the skirt.
  2. Pull the silicone strap over your head. The strap should rest comfortably around the crown of your head, not too high or too low.
  3. Adjust the strap tension using the Micrometric Easy Adjust Buckles on the sides of the mask. The strap should be snug enough to create a seal but not so tight that it causes discomfort or leaves deep marks on your face.

This image highlights key features of the Cressi Marea mask. It shows the high-quality hypoallergenic silicone for a perfect seal and comfort, lift buckles for instant adjustment, inclined tempered glass lenses for improved downward visibility, a soft nose pocket for easy equalization, a double-edge skirt for a great seal, and low internal volume for less air and clearing effort.

3. Snorkel Attachment

Attach the Supernova Dry Snorkel to the mask strap using the quick-release mask strap keeper. Position the snorkel on the left side of your head, ensuring the mouthpiece is comfortable in your mouth and the top of the snorkel extends above your head when in the water.

Cressi Supernova Dry Snorkel features including splash guard, dry top system, quick-release mask strap keeper, flexible corrugated silicone tube, comfortable silicone mouthpiece, and purge valve.

This image illustrates the features of the Cressi Supernova Dry snorkel. It points out the splash guard grid, the dry top system with a floating valve to prevent water entry, a wide elliptical bore for increased airflow capacity, a quick-release mask strap keeper, a flexible corrugated silicone tube, a comfortable silicone mouthpiece, and a purge valve to blow out remaining water.

Operating Instructions

1. Wearing the Kit

Once the mask and snorkel are adjusted, place the mouthpiece of the snorkel into your mouth, biting gently on the tabs. Ensure your lips form a tight seal around the mouthpiece. Place the mask over your eyes and nose, ensuring the skirt seals against your face.

2. Breathing with the Snorkel

Breathe slowly and deeply through your mouth. The Supernova Dry snorkel features a unique dry top system that seals the tube when submerged, preventing water entry. A splash guard at the top further reduces water entry from waves on the surface.

3. Clearing the Snorkel

If water enters the snorkel (e.g., from a large wave or after diving), exhale sharply through your mouth. The purge valve at the bottom of the snorkel will allow water to escape easily. The corrugated section of the snorkel is designed to keep the mouthpiece away from your mouth if you are also using scuba gear.

4. Clearing the Mask

If water enters your mask, press the top of the mask firmly against your forehead and exhale slowly through your nose. The air will push the water out from the bottom of the mask skirt.

5. Ear Equalization

When descending, you may feel pressure in your ears. To equalize, pinch your nose through the soft nose pocket of the mask and gently blow through your nose. Repeat as needed during descent.

Maintenance and Care

1. After Each Use

Rinse your mask and snorkel thoroughly with fresh, clean water immediately after each use. This removes salt, chlorine, and sand, which can degrade the silicone and lenses over time.

2. Cleaning

For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap or a specialized dive gear cleaner with fresh water. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the silicone and polycarbonate lenses.

3. Drying

Allow the mask and snorkel to air dry completely in a cool, shaded area. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the silicone to yellow or become brittle.

4. Storage

Store your kit in a protective case or bag to prevent scratches and damage. Keep it away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Ensure the silicone skirt is not folded or creased for extended periods, as this can affect its sealing ability.

Troubleshooting

  • Mask Leaking:
Check for hair caught under the mask skirt. Ensure the strap is not too tight, as overtightening can distort the skirt and cause leaks. Adjust the mask position on your face for a better seal.
  • Mask Fogging:
Ensure you have performed the initial toothpaste cleaning. Before each use, apply an anti-fog solution or a small amount of saliva to the inside of the lenses, rub, and rinse lightly.
  • Water in Snorkel:
Confirm the dry top valve is clean and free of debris, allowing it to seal properly when submerged. Practice exhaling sharply to clear the purge valve. Ensure the mouthpiece is correctly sealed in your mouth.
  • Discomfort:
Adjust the mask strap tension. If the mouthpiece causes discomfort, ensure it is positioned correctly and you are not biting too hard. The mouthpiece is made from hypoallergenic silicone for comfort.
