4. Setup

Proper setup is crucial for optimal performance of your REL T/9x subwoofer. The unit offers both high-level and low-level input options.

4.1 High-Level Connection (Recommended for Music)

For the best integration with your main speakers for music, use the supplied 10-meter high-level cable with the Neutrik Speakon Connector. Connect this cable directly to the speaker output terminals of your amplifier. This method ensures the subwoofer receives the same sonic signature as your main speakers, leading to a seamless blend.

4.2 Low-Level Connection (Recommended for Home Theater)

For home theater applications, you can connect the subwoofer using an RCA cable (not included) from your AV receiver's subwoofer output (.1/LFE) to the low-level input on the T/9x. This allows your receiver to manage the bass effects channel.

4.3 Placement

Experiment with subwoofer placement to find the optimal position in your room. Corner placement often provides the most output, while placement along a wall can offer a more balanced sound. Consider the acoustics of your room and the interaction with your main speakers.

5. Operating

Once connected, the REL T/9x is designed for intuitive operation. The unit features controls for adjusting volume (HI/LOW LEVEL), crossover frequency, and phase (0/180 degrees) to seamlessly integrate with your main speakers.

5.1 Power On/Off

Connect the power cord to the subwoofer and a suitable wall outlet. The subwoofer will typically enter a standby mode when no audio signal is detected and power on automatically when a signal is present.

5.2 Adjusting Settings

  • Volume: Adjust the HI/LOW LEVEL knob to match the output of your main speakers. Start low and gradually increase until the bass blends naturally without overpowering the sound.
  • Crossover: The crossover control determines the frequency at which the subwoofer takes over from your main speakers. Adjust this based on the low-frequency extension of your main speakers.
  • Phase: The phase switch (0 or 180 degrees) helps ensure the subwoofer's output is in sync with your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that produces the most coherent and impactful bass.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your REL T/9x subwoofer, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the cabinet. For the high gloss finish, a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry one can be used to remove fingerprints or smudges. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the rear heat sink to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation fins.
  • Environment: Keep the subwoofer away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.

If you encounter issues with your REL T/9x subwoofer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
