The XJ-878 watch features four primary buttons for operation:
- M—MODE: Used to cycle through different modes (Time, Alarm, Stopwatch).

Using the Cold Light Function:
Press the LIGHT (L) button at any time to illuminate the display. The cold light will remain on for a few seconds.
Setting and Using the Alarm:
- From the normal time display, press the MODE (M) button twice to enter alarm setting mode. The hour digits will flash.
- Press the RESET (R) button to switch between setting the hour and minute.
- Press the START (S) button to adjust the flashing hour or minute.
- Once the desired alarm time is set, press the MODE (M) button to exit alarm setting mode.
- To turn the alarm ON/OFF, in alarm mode, press the START (S) button. An alarm icon will appear/disappear on the display.
- To turn the hourly chime ON/OFF, in alarm mode, press the RESET (R) button. A chime icon will appear/disappear.
When the alarm sounds, press any button to stop it.
Using the Stopwatch:
- From the normal time display, press the MODE (M) button once to enter stopwatch mode.
- Press the START (S) button to begin timing.
- Press the START (S) button again to pause timing.
- Press the RESET (R) button to reset the stopwatch to zero while it is paused.
- To record split times (lap times), press the RESET (R) button while the stopwatch is running. The display will show the split time, but the stopwatch continues to run in the background. Press RESET (R) again to return to the running stopwatch display.
- Press the MODE (M) button to exit stopwatch mode and return to normal time display.
