1. Product Overview
The SilverStone CS380 is a compact ATX tower chassis designed for users requiring significant storage capacity, particularly for Network Attached Storage (NAS) builds. It supports standard ATX motherboards, ATX (PS2) power supplies, and standard-sized expansion cards. The chassis features a modular, eight hot-swappable drive cage supporting both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA/SAS drives via a custom backplane.
Integrated cooling includes two 120mm intake fans and one 120mm rear exhaust fan, complemented by easily removable dust filters. Security features include a lockable front door and power button.

2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the chassis from its packaging. Inspect the chassis for any signs of damage during transit. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.
2.2 Component Installation
Before installing components, remove the side panels by unscrewing the thumbscrews at the rear of the chassis. The CS380 supports ATX motherboards, standard ATX (PS2) power supplies, and up to eight 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives in its hot-swappable bays.
- Motherboard: Install the I/O shield into the chassis opening. Secure the motherboard using the provided standoffs and screws.
- Power Supply: Mount the ATX power supply in the designated rear compartment. Ensure proper ventilation.
- Storage Drives: Drives for the hot-swappable bays should be mounted onto the drive trays. Slide the trays into the bays until they click into place. Ensure the SATA/SAS data and power connections are properly made to the backplane.
- Expansion Cards: Install graphics cards or other expansion cards into the motherboard's PCIe slots and secure them with screws.

2.3 Cable Management
Effective cable management is crucial for optimal airflow and system stability. Utilize the cable routing cutouts and tie-down points behind the motherboard tray to organize power supply cables and data cables. This helps maintain a clean interior and improves cooling efficiency.
3. Operation
3.1 Powering On
After all components are installed and cables connected, ensure the power supply switch is in the 'ON' position. Press the power button located behind the front door to initiate system startup. The power button can be locked to prevent accidental shutdowns.
3.2 Front Panel Connectivity
The front panel provides convenient access to various ports:
- USB 3.0 Ports: Two USB 3.0 ports for high-speed data transfer.
- USB 2.0 Ports: Two USB 2.0 ports for general peripheral connections.
- Audio Jacks: Headphone and microphone jacks for audio input/output.

3.3 Drive Hot-Swapping
The CS380's hot-swappable drive bays allow for the removal and insertion of drives while the system is running, provided the operating system and RAID controller support hot-swapping. Always ensure data integrity by safely ejecting or unmounting drives through the operating system before physical removal.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your components. The CS380 features easily removable dust filters on its intake vents. Periodically remove and clean these filters using compressed air or by washing them with water and allowing them to dry completely before reinstallation.
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the chassis. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
4.2 Fan Maintenance
Check the chassis fans periodically for dust buildup. If necessary, carefully clean the fan blades with compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure fans are spinning freely and quietly. If a fan becomes noisy or stops functioning, consider replacing it to maintain adequate airflow.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Common Issues
- No Power:
- Ensure the power supply is properly connected to the wall outlet and the power supply switch is ON.
- Verify all internal power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, PCIe, SATA) are securely connected.
- Check the front panel power button connection to the motherboard.
- Drive Not Detected:
- Ensure drives are fully seated in their hot-swappable bays.
- Verify the backplane's SATA/SAS data and power cables are connected to the motherboard/RAID controller and power supply.
- Check BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure SATA/SAS ports are enabled.
- Overheating:
- Ensure all chassis fans are operational and free of obstructions.
- Clean dust filters regularly.
- Verify proper airflow within the chassis; ensure cables are managed to not impede airflow.
