5. Setup Instructions
Follow these general steps to set up your VONETS VBG1200 device. Specific configuration details will depend on your chosen operating mode.
- Power On: Connect the USB/DC power cable to the VBG1200 device and then to a compatible USB power adapter (5V-15V) or a USB port on a device. The indicator lights will illuminate.
- Initial Connection: Connect the VBG1200's Ethernet port to your computer's Ethernet port using the provided RJ45 cable.
- Access Configuration Page: Open a web browser on your computer and enter the default IP address (usually found in the quick start guide or on the device label) to access the configuration interface. If the device is new, it might broadcast its own WiFi network for initial setup.
- Configure Operating Mode: Within the configuration interface, select your desired operating mode (Bridge, Repeater, or Router) and follow the on-screen prompts to configure network settings, including WiFi SSID, password, and other relevant parameters.
- Apply Settings: Save and apply the configuration. The device may reboot.
- Verify Connection: After reboot, check the indicator lights to confirm successful connection to your network. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer if using WiFi mode.
Note: For detailed configuration steps specific to each mode, refer to the online documentation or the device's web interface help section.
6. Operating Modes
The VONETS VBG1200 supports three primary operating modes:
6.1. WiFi Bridge Mode
In Bridge mode, the device converts a WiFi signal into a wired Ethernet connection. This is ideal for connecting wired-only devices (e.g., network printers, DVRs, IP cameras, smart TVs, gaming consoles like PS3) to a wireless network without running long Ethernet cables.
Figure 6.1: WiFi Bridge Application
Configuration: Connect the VBG1200 to your wired device via Ethernet. Access the configuration page, select Bridge mode, and connect to your existing WiFi network by entering its SSID and password.
6.2. WiFi Repeater Mode
Repeater mode extends the range of an existing WiFi network. The VBG1200 receives the wireless signal from your main router and re-broadcasts it, effectively expanding coverage to areas with weak or no signal.
Figure 6.2: WiFi Repeater Application
Configuration: Place the VBG1200 within range of your main WiFi router. Access the configuration page, select Repeater mode, and connect to your existing WiFi network. The device will then extend this network.
6.3. WiFi Router Mode
In Router mode, the VBG1200 acts as a primary wireless access point. It can connect to an internet source (e.g., a modem) via its Ethernet port and then broadcast its own WiFi network for multiple devices to connect to.

Configuration: Connect the VBG1200's Ethernet port to your modem or internet source. Access the configuration page, select Router mode, and set up your new WiFi network's SSID and password.
7. Application Scenarios
The VBG1200 is suitable for a wide range of applications due to its versatile functionality:
- Industrial Automation: Connecting industrial PLCs and control systems to a wireless network.
- Security Systems: Providing network connectivity for monitoring cameras and DVRs.
- Medical Devices: Enabling wireless connectivity for various medical instruments.
- Retail & POS: Integrating electronic scales and cash registers into a network.
- IoT Devices: Serving as a WiFi adapter for IoT gateways and other smart devices.
- Robotics: Providing network access for robotic systems.

9. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your VBG1200, refer to the following troubleshooting tips:
- No Power/Indicator Lights Off:
- Ensure the USB/DC power cable is securely connected to both the device and a working power source (5V-15V).
- Try a different USB power adapter or USB port.
- Cannot Access Configuration Page:
- Verify that your computer is directly connected to the VBG1200 via Ethernet.
- Ensure your computer's network adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
- Try a different web browser.
- Reset the device to factory defaults (see Section 10.1).
- No Internet Connection:
- In Bridge/Repeater mode, ensure the VBG1200 is successfully connected to your main WiFi network (check indicator lights).
- In Router mode, ensure the Ethernet cable from your modem/internet source is properly connected and the modem is working.
- Verify that the WiFi password entered during configuration is correct.
- Check for signal interference or distance issues.
- Slow Speed/Unstable Connection:
- Ensure the device is placed in an optimal location, away from obstructions and interference sources.
- Check if other devices on your network are consuming significant bandwidth.
- Consider switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands if applicable, as 5GHz offers higher speed but shorter range.
- Ensure the device has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating, which can affect performance. The aluminum casing is designed for heat dissipation.
- Device Does Not Reconnect Automatically:
- This can sometimes occur after a power outage. Try power cycling the device (unplug and replug).
- Ensure the "WiFi hotspot auto-reconnect" feature is enabled in the configuration settings.
10. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your VBG1200 device.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area. Do not cover the vents or place it in an enclosed space to prevent overheating.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates. Updates can improve performance, add features, and fix bugs.
- Power Cycle: If the device becomes unresponsive or experiences intermittent issues, power cycling (unplugging and replugging the power) can often resolve the problem.
10.1. Factory Reset
If you encounter persistent issues or forget your configuration settings, you can perform a factory reset. This will revert all settings to their default values.
- With the device powered on, locate the reset button (usually a small pinhole).
- Use a paperclip or a similar pointed object to press and hold the reset button for approximately 5-10 seconds.
- Release the button. The device will reboot with factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure it from scratch.
