1. Introduction

The KidiZoom PrintCam is designed for durability and ease of use for young photographers. Its robust construction protects against drops, and the intuitive interface makes it simple to navigate through various functions.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the camera's non-removable lithium-ion battery. Connect the included Micro-USB cable to the camera's USB port and plug the other end into a computer or a compatible USB power adapter (not included). The charging indicator light will show the charging status.

4.2 Inserting the Paper Roll

  1. Locate the paper compartment door on the side of the camera.
  2. Open the door.
  3. Insert a new thermal paper roll, ensuring the paper feeds out from the top of the roll and is aligned with the printing slot.
  4. Close the paper compartment door securely.

The camera works with KidiZoom PrintCam Paper Refill Packs (sold separately) or most 2.2"W x 1.2"D thermal paper roll refills.

4.3 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the Power button (usually located on the top or side) for a few seconds to turn the camera on or off.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Taking Photos

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Navigate to the Photo mode using the directional buttons and press the OK button.
  3. Frame your shot using the 2.4" color screen.
  4. Press the Shutter button (usually a large button on top) to take a picture.
  5. To take a selfie, flip up the lens located on the front of the camera. The screen will automatically adjust for selfie mode.

5.2 Recording Videos

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Navigate to the Video mode and press OK.
  3. Press the Shutter button to start recording.
  4. Press the Shutter button again to stop recording.

5.3 Instant Printing

After taking a photo, the camera will offer an option to print. Select the print option, and the black and white image will emerge from the side slot. Gently tear off the printed photo.

5.4 Adding Effects and Customization

The camera offers various creative options:

  • Templates: Choose from over 110 templates to create comic strips, play money, greeting cards, and more.
  • Effects, Stickers, Filters, Borders: Apply these to your photos and videos directly on the camera screen.
  • Coloring Pages: Transform your photos into outlines that can be printed and colored manually.

5.5 Playing Games

Access the Games section from the main menu to play three included video games during breaks from photography.

5.6 Transferring Files

To back up full-color photos and videos, connect the camera to a computer using the included USB cable. Under adult supervision, files can be transferred to the computer for storage.

5.7 Parental Controls

Parents can access settings to:

  • Set daily time limits for camera usage.
  • Set printing limits to manage paper consumption.
  • Turn off games if desired.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the camera clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the camera to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for extended periods.
  • Ensure the USB port cover is closed when not charging to prevent dust and moisture entry.
  • Store extra paper rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct light to preserve quality.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Camera Not Turning On

  • Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. Connect the camera to a power source using the USB cable and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.

7.2 No Print Output

  • Check if a paper roll is correctly inserted in the paper compartment.
  • Ensure the paper roll is not empty. Replace with a new roll if necessary.
  • Verify that a photo has been successfully taken and the print option was selected.

7.3 Poor Print Quality

  • Ensure there is adequate lighting when taking photos.
  • Check the paper roll for any damage or moisture. Use fresh, dry paper.
  • Clean the print head gently with a soft, lint-free cloth if prints appear streaky or faded.

7.4 Cannot Transfer Files to Computer

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the camera and the computer.
  • Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Restart both the camera and the computer.
