3. Setup
3.1 Physical Installation
The TL-SG3452 switch can be placed on a desktop or mounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack using the included rackmount kit.
Desktop Placement: Attach the provided rubber feet to the bottom of the switch to prevent slipping and protect surfaces.
Rack Mounting:
- Attach the two rack-mount brackets to the sides of the switch using the provided screws.
- Secure the switch into the rack using appropriate screws for your rack.
Ensure adequate ventilation around the switch for proper heat dissipation.
3.2 Connecting the Switch
Connect the power cord to the power inlet on the rear panel of the switch and plug it into a suitable power outlet. The switch will power on automatically.
Connect your network devices (computers, servers, other switches, routers) to the RJ45 ports on the front panel using standard Ethernet cables. For high-speed uplinks or connections to fiber optic networks, use compatible SFP modules in the SFP slots.

3.3 Initial Configuration
The switch can be managed via its web-based GUI, Command Line Interface (CLI) through the console port, or integrated into the Omada SDN platform.
Web-based GUI: Access the switch's web interface by connecting a computer directly to one of its RJ45 ports and configuring your computer's IP address to be in the same subnet as the switch's default IP address (refer to the Quick Installation Guide for default IP). Open a web browser and enter the switch's IP address.
Omada SDN Integration: For centralized management, integrate the switch into your Omada SDN network. This requires an Omada Hardware Controller, Software Controller, or Cloud-Based Controller. Ensure your controller's firmware is up to date for proper adoption and configuration.

4. Operating the Switch
4.1 Basic Network Operation
Once connected, the TL-SG3452 switch will automatically detect the speed of connected devices and establish a link. The LED indicators on the front panel provide status information for each port (Link/Act) and the system (Power, System).
4.2 Advanced Features (L2+)
The TL-SG3452 supports a range of L2+ features for advanced network management and optimization:
- VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network): Segment your network into smaller, isolated broadcast domains to improve security and performance. The switch supports 802.1Q VLAN.
- Static Routing: Configure static routes to direct traffic between different VLANs or subnets, optimizing network resource utilization.
- QoS (Quality of Service): Prioritize network traffic to ensure critical applications (e.g., VoIP, video conferencing) receive sufficient bandwidth. Supports L2/L3/L4 QoS.
- IGMP Snooping: Optimize multicast traffic delivery, preventing unnecessary flooding of multicast packets to all ports.
- LAG (Link Aggregation Group): Combine multiple physical links into a single logical link to increase bandwidth and provide link redundancy.

Figure 4.2.1: Example network diagram illustrating the use of VLANs (VLAN 1 for Surveillance, VLAN 2 for Office Network, VLAN 3 for Guest Network) to segment network traffic on the switch.
4.3 Network Security
The switch incorporates robust security features to protect your network:
- IP-MAC-Port Binding: Binds the IP address, MAC address, and port of a device to prevent unauthorized access.
- ACL (Access Control List): Filter network traffic based on various criteria such as MAC address, IP address, TCP/UDP port numbers.
- Port Security: Limits the number of MAC addresses that can be learned on a port to prevent MAC flooding attacks.
- DoS Defend: Protects against Denial of Service attacks.
- Storm Control: Prevents network performance degradation caused by broadcast, multicast, or unknown unicast storms.
- DHCP Snooping: Prevents unauthorized DHCP servers from providing IP addresses and mitigates DHCP-related attacks.
- 802.1X Radius Authentication: Provides port-based network access control, requiring users to authenticate before gaining network access.
5. Maintenance
5.1 General Care
- Keep the switch in a clean, dust-free environment.
- Ensure proper ventilation and avoid blocking the air vents.
- Operate the device within the specified temperature range (0–40°C or 32–104°F).
- Do not expose the switch to water or excessive humidity.
5.2 Firmware Updates
Regularly check the TP-Link official website for the latest firmware updates for your TL-SG3452 switch and any associated Omada controllers. Keeping firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, security, and access to new features. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update package carefully.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- No Power: Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the switch and a working power outlet. Verify the power outlet is active.
- No Link/Activity LED: Check the Ethernet cable connections between the switch and the connected device. Ensure the connected device is powered on and functioning correctly. Try a different port or cable.
- Cannot Access Web Management Interface: Verify your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the switch. Clear your browser's cache or try a different browser. Ensure no firewall is blocking access.
- Omada Controller Adoption Issues: Ensure the Omada controller's firmware is fully updated. Verify network connectivity between the switch and the controller. The switch may require a factory reset if it was previously managed by another controller or in standalone mode.
- Slow Network Performance: Check for network loops (ensure Spanning Tree Protocol is enabled if applicable). Verify cable quality and length. Check for high network utilization or broadcast storms.
6.2 Using the Console Port
The TL-SG3452 includes a console port for CLI management. If you encounter issues with web or Omada management, the console port provides a direct interface for configuration and diagnostics. A serial console cable is included for this purpose.
