1. Introduction

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, read and follow all safety instructions before using this vacuum cleaner.

  • Do not leave the vacuum cleaner unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing.
  • Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
  • Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
  • Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments.
  • Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center.
  • Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
  • Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
  • Do not handle plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands.
  • Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
  • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
  • Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
  • Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.
  • Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.
  • Turn off all controls before unplugging.
  • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

4. Assembly and Initial Setup

  1. Attach the Hose: Insert the flexible hose into the suction inlet on the main canister unit until it clicks securely into place.
  2. Connect the Wand: Attach the telescoping wand to the handle end of the flexible hose. Ensure it is firmly connected.
  3. Attach the Cleaning Head: Select your desired cleaning head (Power Nozzle for carpets or Bare Floor Tool for hard floors) and attach it to the end of the telescoping wand.
  4. Install Accessories: The 3-in-1 combination tool can be stored on the vacuum unit for easy access.
  5. Check Dust Bag and Filters: Ensure a dust bag is properly installed and the HEPA filter is in place before first use. Refer to the Maintenance section for details.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On and Off

Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. Press the power button located on the canister unit or handle to turn the vacuum on or off.

5.2 Using the Retractable Cord

The vacuum features a 26-foot retractable cord. To extend the cord, pull it gently from the back of the unit. To retract, press the cord rewind button with your foot. Guide the cord to prevent whipping.

5.3 Cleaning Different Surfaces

The Kenmore BC2005 is designed for both carpet and bare floor cleaning.

  • For Carpets: Use the Power Nozzle. This attachment provides optimal airflow and cleaning efficiency for carpeted surfaces.
  • For Bare Floors: Use the Bare Floor Tool. This tool is designed to effectively clean hard surfaces without scratching.

5.4 Using Attachments

The telescoping wand extends up to 9.5 feet, allowing for extended reach to access difficult areas such as ceilings, curtains, and high shelves. The detachable handle is suitable for cleaning furniture, car interiors, and tight spaces.

The 3-in-1 combination tool includes a crevice tool for narrow spaces, a dusting brush for delicate surfaces, and an upholstery tool for fabrics.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your vacuum cleaner.

6.1 Replacing the Dust Bag

The Kenmore BC2005 uses disposable dust bags. Replace the bag when the 'Bag Full' indicator illuminates or when suction power decreases significantly. Always use genuine Kenmore replacement bags.

  1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner from the power outlet.
  2. Open the dust bag compartment.
  3. Carefully remove the full dust bag, ensuring the opening is sealed to prevent dust escape.
  4. Insert a new Kenmore replacement dust bag, ensuring it is properly seated in the holder.
  5. Close the dust bag compartment securely.

6.2 Cleaning/Replacing the HEPA Filter

The HEPA filtration system captures 99.97% of debris and dander, improving air quality. The HEPA filter should be checked regularly and replaced as needed, typically every 6-12 months depending on usage.

  1. Unplug the vacuum cleaner.
  2. Locate the HEPA filter compartment (refer to your vacuum's diagram if unsure).
  3. Remove the old filter.
  4. Insert a new HEPA filter, ensuring it fits snugly.
  5. Close the filter compartment.

Note: Some HEPA filters are washable, while others are not. Consult the filter packaging for specific cleaning instructions. If washable, ensure it is completely dry before reinstallation.

6.3 Cleaning the Power Nozzle

Periodically check the brush roll of the power nozzle for tangled hair or debris. Unplug the vacuum, then use scissors to carefully cut and remove any obstructions from the brush roll.

7. Troubleshooting

Before performing any troubleshooting, ensure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged from the power outlet.
