1. Overview
The JOYO JDI-48 is a versatile 2-in-1 device combining an active direct box (DI) with a passive re-amping function. Designed for guitarists, bassists, and recording engineers, it facilitates signal switching for professional recording and live performance. The DI section is phantom powered, ensuring high dynamic range and signal integrity, while the re-amping section operates passively.

2. Key Features
- Independent Re-amp and DI functions 2 in 1.
- DI features low-cut, phase reverse, stereo mix, and more.
- REAMPING Input Jack: 6.35mm and XLR 2 in 1 Input Jack, accepting both 6.35mm TRRS and XLR.
- No need for battery; 48V phantom powered DI box.
- High dynamic range, retaining the nuances of instruments' sound.
- Grounding switch turns off the internal grounding channel between the Input & Output.
- High Input Impedance reduces pick-up loading.
- Low-cut filter (-15dB attenuation) and polarity reverse feature.
- Suitable for signal switching during professional recording and live performance.

3. Setup
The JOYO JDI-48 offers flexible connectivity for both DI and re-amping applications.
3.1 Powering the DI Section
The DI section of the JDI-48 is active and requires 48V phantom power. Ensure your mixer or audio interface's 48V phantom power is turned on when using the DI function. The re-amping section is passive and does not require external power.

3.2 Connecting for DI Use
For direct injection, connect your instrument (e.g., guitar, bass) to the JDI-48's input. The balanced XLR output can then be connected to a mixer or audio interface.

3.3 Connecting for Re-amping
To re-amp a pre-recorded track, connect the output from your audio interface (typically a line-level signal) to the JDI-48's REAMPING Input. This input accepts both 6.35mm TRRS and XLR connections. The JDI-48's output can then be connected to your amplifier's input.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Input and Output
The JDI-48 features a combined 6.35mm and XLR 2-in-1 input jack for the REAMPING function, allowing for versatile connection options. The main output is a balanced XLR connection.

Figure 6: The JDI-48's re-amping input is compatible with both XLR and 6.35mm plugs.
4.2 Controls and Switches
- Output Level: Adjusts the output volume.
- -6dB/80Hz Low Cut: Engages a low-cut filter at 80Hz with -6dB attenuation to remove unwanted low-frequency rumble.
- -15dB Pad: Attenuates the input signal by 15dB, useful for high-output sources to prevent clipping.
- Merge Switch: When the MERGE switch is not engaged, the INPUT jack is used as input, while the THRU jack outputs the signal from the input without any processing. When the MERGE switch is engaged, both INPUT and THRU become input channels, mixing their signals through the DI unit into a mono signal, which is then outputted to your audio interface or mixer.
- 180° Flip/Reverse: Reverses the phase of the signal, useful for correcting phase issues between multiple microphones or signals.
- Ground Lift: Disconnects the ground wire between the input and output, effectively eliminating ground loop hum and noise.

5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your JOYO JDI-48, keep the unit clean and free from dust. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 No Sound Output
- Ensure 48V phantom power is active for the DI function.
- Check all cable connections for proper seating and integrity.
- Verify that the output level is not set to minimum.
- If using the re-amping function, ensure the source signal is strong enough.
6.2 Hum or Noise
- Engage the Ground Lift switch to eliminate ground loop hum.
- Check for faulty cables or power sources.
- Ensure proper gain staging to avoid excessive noise.
- If the noise is low-frequency rumble, try engaging the Low Cut filter.
6.3 Distorted Sound
- Engage the -15dB Pad switch if the input signal is too hot.
- Reduce the input level from your source device.
- Check for damaged cables or connections.
6.4 Phase Issues
- Use the 180° Flip/Reverse switch to correct phase discrepancies, especially when combining signals from multiple sources.
