1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the SHELL Electric Vehicle Charger. This Level 2 (40 Amps, 240V) EV charger is designed to provide fast and efficient charging for your electric vehicle, up to 7 times faster than a standard wall outlet (Level 1). This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your new EV charger, including setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

2. Safety Information
Your safety is paramount. Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the charger. For detailed safety guidelines, refer to the official Safety Information PDF document provided with your product or available online.
- Ensure the charger is connected to a properly grounded NEMA 14-50R receptacle.
- Do not use the charger if the cable or connector is damaged.
- Keep children and pets away from the charging area.
- The charger is rated IP66 for water and dust resistance, suitable for indoor and outdoor use. However, avoid submerging the unit in water.
- The charger features S-PROTECH technology for smart and safe charging, including protection against short-circuit, current leakage, grounding, thermal, over-charge, and over-current.

3. What's in the Box
Upon opening your SHELL EV Charger package, you should find the following components:
- SHELL Portable Electric Vehicle Charger (Level 2) with 30ft cable and SAE J1772 connector
- NEMA 14-50R Plug (integrated with the charger cable)
- NEMA 5-15P (110V) to 14-50R Adapter

4. Setup
The SHELL EV Charger is designed for easy plug-and-charge operation with no complex installation required. It can be used for both home and portable charging.
4.1 Power Connection
- For Level 2 (240V) Charging: Plug the NEMA 14-50R plug directly into a dedicated 240V NEMA 14-50R receptacle. Ensure the receptacle is properly installed and grounded by a qualified electrician.
- For Level 1 (110V) Charging: Use the included NEMA 5-15P to 14-50R adapter. Connect the charger's NEMA 14-50R plug to the adapter, then plug the adapter into a standard 110V residential outlet (NEMA 5-15). Note that charging speed will be significantly slower at 110V.

4.2 Placement
The charger's 30ft cable provides flexibility for placement. Position the charger unit in a location that is easily accessible and allows the cable to reach your vehicle's charging port without excessive tension or kinking. The unit can be wall-mounted if desired, but it is also designed for portable use with its protective case.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Connecting to Your Vehicle
The SHELL EV Charger is compatible with all electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that use the SAE J1772 connector. For Tesla vehicles, an additional J1772-to-Tesla adapter (not included) is required.
- Ensure the charger is properly plugged into a power outlet (240V or 110V).
- Open your vehicle's charging port.
- Firmly insert the SAE J1772 charging gun into your vehicle's charging port until it clicks into place.
- The charger will automatically begin charging, and the LCD display will show the charging status.

5.2 Understanding the LCD Display
The charger features an LCD display that provides real-time charging information, including:
- Input Voltage (V)
- Current (Amps)
- Power (kW)
- Energy Charged (kWh)
- Charging Time
- Internal Temperature

5.3 Adjusting Charging Current (Smart vs. Manual Mode)
The charger allows you to adjust the charging current to optimize charging speed or battery life. This adjustment should be made before connecting the charger to your vehicle.
- Auto Mode (Smart Mode): This is the default setting. The charger will automatically maximize the output current (up to 40A) to shorten charging time.
- Manual Mode: Press the 'A' button on the charger unit to cycle through available current settings (e.g., 12A, 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A). Select a customized constant current for longer charging time, which can contribute to better battery life.
5.4 Scheduling Charging
You can schedule the start or finish time of your charging session to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates.
- Press the 'Clock' button on the charger unit to set a delay in charge start time (increments of whole hours).
- The charger will automatically cut off power when the vehicle battery is fully charged.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your SHELL EV Charger.
- Cleaning: Wipe the charger unit and cables with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
- Storage: When not in use, store the charger in its tailored protective case in a dry, cool place. Avoid coiling the cable too tightly to prevent damage.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the charging cable, plug, and charging gun for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately and contact customer support.
- Environmental Protection: The charger is IP66 rated, meaning it is 'dust tight' and protected against powerful jets of water. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your SHELL EV Charger, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
