6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your cooker hood.
6.1. Cleaning the Exterior
The stainless steel finish of your cooker hood should be cleaned regularly to maintain its appearance. Use a soft cloth dampened with warm soapy water or a specialized stainless steel cleaner. Avoid abrasive sponges, scourers, or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
6.2. Cleaning and Replacing Grease Filters
The metallic grease filters capture airborne grease particles and are essential for the hood's efficiency. They should be cleaned regularly, approximately every two months, or more frequently depending on usage.
- Removal: Ensure the hood is turned off and disconnected from the power supply. Locate the latches on the grease filters. Push the latch and gently pull the filter downwards to release it.
- Cleaning: The filters can be washed by hand in warm soapy water or in a dishwasher. For dishwasher cleaning, place them vertically to prevent food residue from settling.
- Drying: Ensure the filters are completely dry before re-installing them.
- Re-installation: Insert the filters back into their slots, ensuring the latches click into place securely.
If your hood is operating in recirculation mode (without external ducting), it may also use activated charcoal filters. These filters are not washable and must be replaced every 3-6 months, depending on usage. Refer to the specific instructions provided with your charcoal filters for replacement procedures.
