Introduction
Thank you for choosing the HIFIMAN HE400SE Stealth Magnets Version Over-Ear Open-Back Planar Magnetic Wired Headphones. These headphones are designed to deliver exceptional audio fidelity for audiophiles and studio professionals. Featuring advanced planar magnetic technology with acoustically transparent Stealth Magnets, the HE400SE aims to provide a pure, accurate, and full-range sonic output with significantly lower distortion compared to conventional dynamic headphones. This manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your new headphones to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Setup
- Connecting the Cable: Locate the two 3.5mm connectors on the detachable cable. Insert one connector into the port on the bottom of each earcup until it clicks securely into place. Ensure both sides are connected firmly.

Figure 2: Detail of the 3.5mm cable connection point on the earcup.
- Connecting to an Audio Source: Connect the other end of the cable (with the single 3.5mm jack) to your audio source. If your audio source requires a larger 6.35mm (1/4 inch) connection, attach the included 6.35mm adapter to the 3.5mm jack on the cable.
Note: The HE400SE headphones are highly sensitive and can be driven by low-voltage sources like portable hi-res audio players. However, for optimal performance and to fully appreciate the planar magnetic drivers, a dedicated headphone amplifier or DAC/Amp is recommended. Connecting directly to a smartphone or laptop without sufficient power may result in lower volume and reduced sound quality.
- Adjusting for Comfort: Place the headphones on your head. Adjust the headband by sliding the earcups up or down until they rest comfortably over your ears and the headband sits securely on your head. The earcups feature a vertical swivel for a better fit.

Operating Instructions
Once connected and adjusted, your HIFIMAN HE400SE headphones are ready for use. These are open-back headphones, meaning they allow some sound to escape and enter, providing a wider soundstage and a more natural listening experience. This design is ideal for quiet environments where immersive audio is desired, but it offers less noise isolation than closed-back headphones.
Key Features:
- Planar Magnetic Drivers: Unlike dynamic headphones, planar headphones feature conductive layers covering nearly the entire diaphragm, resulting in significantly lower distortion and superior detail.
- Acoustically Invisible Stealth Magnets: The unique shape of these magnets allows sound waves to pass through without interference, reducing wave diffraction turbulence and yielding pure, accurate sound.
- High Sensitivity: Designed to be easily driven by a variety of sources, including portable devices, though an amplifier enhances performance.
- Comfortable Design: The adjustable lightweight headband and plush ear cushions ensure comfort during extended listening sessions.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the earcups and headband. For ear cushions, gently wipe with a slightly damp cloth if necessary, and allow to air dry completely before use. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Cable Care: Handle the detachable cable with care. Avoid sharp bends or excessive pulling. When not in use, coil the cable loosely.
- Storage: Store your headphones in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The original packaging can serve as a good storage solution.
