5. Setup
5.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the scale and all accessories from the packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.
5.2 Placement
Place the scale on a firm, flat, and stable surface. Ensure the location is free from:
- Vibrations or sudden movements.
- Air currents (e.g., from fans, air conditioning, open windows).
- Direct sunlight or rapid temperature changes.
- Sources of electromagnetic interference.
5.3 Leveling the Scale
Accurate measurements depend on a perfectly level scale. Use the integrated bubble level and adjustable legs:
- Observe the bubble in the bubble level indicator on the scale's base.
- Adjust the non-slip leveling legs by rotating them clockwise or counter-clockwise until the bubble is centered within the circle.
6. Power Supply
The Eosphorus SF-460 B offers flexible power options:

Figure 6.1: Power supply options: USB cable, AC/DC adapter, and AA batteries.
- USB Power: Connect the provided USB cord to the scale and a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer, power bank).
- AC/DC Adapter: Connect the USB cord to the provided AC/DC adapter, then plug the adapter into a standard wall outlet.
- Battery Power: For portable use, insert two (2) 1.5V AA batteries (not included) into the battery compartment located on the underside of the scale. Ensure correct polarity.
7. Operation
7.1 Turning On/Off
Press the ON/OFF button to power the scale on. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for a few seconds to power it off.
7.2 Basic Weighing
- Ensure the scale is on a level surface and powered on.
- Wait for the display to show "0.00" or "0.000" (depending on the unit).
- Carefully place the item to be weighed onto the center of the weighing pan.
- Read the stable weight displayed on the LCD screen.

7.3 Tare Function
The Tare function allows you to subtract the weight of a container, so only the net weight of the contents is measured.
- Place an empty container onto the weighing pan. The display will show its weight.
- Press the TARE button. The display will reset to "0.00" (or "0.000").
- Add the items to be weighed into the container. The display will show the weight of the items only.
7.4 Unit Conversion
The scale supports multiple units of measurement.

Figure 7.2: Available weighing units on the display.
Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through the available units:
- Pound (lb)
- Ounce (oz)
- Kilogram (kg)
- Gram (g)
- Carat (ct)
- Tael (tl)
- Piece Counting (pcs)
7.5 Piece Counting (PCS)
This function allows you to count a large number of small, uniform items.
- With the scale on and showing "0.00", place a sample quantity of items (e.g., 10, 20, 50, or 100 pieces) on the weighing pan.
- Press and hold the PCS button until "PCS" appears on the display.
- The display will prompt you to select the sample quantity (e.g., "10", "20"). Use the MODE button to select the correct sample quantity.
- Press the PCS button again to confirm. The scale is now calibrated for piece counting.
- Remove the sample and place the full quantity of items on the pan. The display will show the total count.
7.6 Calibration
The Eosphorus SF-460 B scale comes pre-calibrated from the factory. However, external calibration may be performed if necessary to ensure accuracy over time or after significant environmental changes.

Figure 7.3: Scale displaying 'PASS' after successful calibration.
To perform external calibration:
- Ensure the scale is on a level surface and powered off.
- Press and hold the MODE button, then press the ON/OFF button simultaneously. Release both buttons when "CAL" appears on the display.
- The display will show a flashing weight value (e.g., "200.00g" or "500.00g"), indicating the required calibration weight.
- Carefully place the exact calibration weight (not included) corresponding to the displayed value onto the center of the weighing pan.
- Wait for the display to show "PASS" and then return to normal weighing mode. This indicates successful calibration.
- Remove the calibration weight.
Note: Use a high-quality, certified calibration weight for best results.
8. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the scale surface and weighing pan with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the scale in water. The stainless steel weighing pan is removable for easier cleaning.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the scale in a dry, cool place, away from dust and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for a long time to prevent leakage.
- Inspection: Periodically check the leveling legs and weighing pan for any damage or debris that might affect accuracy.
9. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Scale does not turn on | No power; low batteries; faulty connection | Check USB connection/AC adapter; replace batteries; ensure batteries are inserted correctly. |
| Inaccurate readings | Not level; vibrations/drafts; needs calibration; overloaded | Level the scale; move to a stable environment; perform external calibration; ensure weight is within capacity. |
| Display shows "EEEE" or "O-Ld" | Overload | Remove excess weight immediately. |
| Display is dim or flickering | Low batteries | Replace batteries or use AC/USB power. |
