  1. Water Filter Installation: The coffee maker includes a charcoal water filter. Insert the charcoal filter into the water filter holder, then place the holder into the water reservoir.
  2. Setting the Clock: Plug the coffee maker into a standard electrical outlet. The LCD display will illuminate. Use the 'Hour' and 'Min' buttons on the control panel to set the current time.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew coffee:

  1. Add Water: Open the top lid and fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. Pour the water into the water reservoir, located at the back of the unit. The water level indicator on the side will help you measure accurately.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable gold-tone filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket. Add the appropriate amount of ground coffee. For a full 12-cup pot, approximately 12-15 tablespoons of coffee grounds are recommended, adjusted to personal taste. Close the top lid securely.
  3. Select Brew Strength: For a regular brew, simply proceed to the next step. For a stronger coffee, press the '1-4 Cup' button once; this button doubles as a 'Bold' setting when making a full pot, slowing the water flow for enhanced flavor extraction.
  4. Start Brewing: Press the 'START/STOP' button to begin the brewing cycle. The indicator light will illuminate.
  5. Programmable Brewing: To program the coffee maker to start brewing at a later time, first set the desired brew time using the 'Prog' button and then the 'Hour' and 'Min' buttons. Once programmed, the coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the set time.
  6. Pause & Serve: The coffee maker features an automatic pause and serve function, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe for up to 20 seconds to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

  1. Daily Cleaning: After each use, discard used coffee grounds. Wash the glass carafe, lid, and reusable filter in warm, soapy water. These components are dishwasher-safe. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
  2. Charcoal Water Filter Replacement: The charcoal water filter should be replaced approximately every 70 brewing cycles or every 2 months, whichever comes first. The coffee maker may indicate when a filter change is due.
  3. Descaling: Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect performance. To descale, fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio). Place an empty carafe on the warming plate and run a brew cycle. After the cycle, let it sit for 15 minutes, then run another cycle with clean water. Repeat with clean water until the vinegar smell is gone.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your coffee maker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Coffee Not Brewing: Ensure the coffee maker is plugged in, the 'START/STOP' button is pressed, and the water reservoir contains sufficient water. Check that the carafe is correctly placed on the warming plate.
  • Weak Coffee: Increase the amount of coffee grounds used or select the 'Bold' brew setting. Ensure the charcoal water filter is not clogged and is replaced regularly.
  • Loud Alarm: Some users have noted the completion alarm is loud. This is a design feature and cannot be adjusted.
  • Water Leaking: Ensure the filter basket is properly seated and the carafe is not overfilled. Check for any cracks in the carafe.
