4. Setup & Installation
Carefully follow the instructions below for proper installation. Refer to the included user manual for detailed diagrams.
4.1 General Installation Notes
- Ensure your motherboard is compatible with the cooler's mounting system (Intel LGA1700/1200/115x or AMD AM4/AM5).
- Always remove the protective plastic cover from the cooler's base before installation.
- The cooler comes with pre-applied thermal paste. No additional paste is required for initial installation.
- Orient the fan to ensure proper airflow through your PC case (typically front-to-back or bottom-to-top).
4.2 Intel Socket Installation (LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155)
- Place the Intel backplate behind the motherboard, aligning the holes with the CPU socket.
- Insert the plastic spacers through the motherboard holes and into the backplate. Ensure the correct position (1 or 2) on the spacers for your specific socket type.
- Place the metal mounting brackets onto the plastic spacers, ensuring the arrows on the brackets point towards the CPU. Secure them with the thumb screws.
- Carefully place the CPU cooler onto the CPU, aligning the cooler's mounting holes with the threaded posts of the mounting brackets.
- Tighten the screws in a diagonal pattern until snug. Do not overtighten.
- Attach the Pure Wings 2 92mm PWM fan to the heatsink using the provided fan clips. Ensure the fan's airflow direction is correct.
- Connect the 4-pin PWM fan cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard.
4.3 AMD Socket Installation (AM4, AM5)
- Remove the pre-installed AMD retention brackets from your motherboard. Keep the original backplate in place.
- Insert the plastic spacers through the motherboard holes.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Fan Control
The Pure Wings 2 92mm fan supports PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) for automatic speed control. Connect the fan's 4-pin connector to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard. The motherboard's BIOS or dedicated software will manage the fan speed based on CPU temperature, balancing cooling performance with quiet operation.
5.2 Noise Levels
The Pure Rock Slim 2 is engineered for silent operation, with the Pure Wings 2 fan producing a maximum noise level of 25.4dB(A) at full speed. Actual noise levels may vary depending on system load, ambient temperature, and PC case acoustics.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain optimal cooling performance. Use compressed air to gently remove dust from the heatsink fins and fan blades. Ensure the fan is not spinning rapidly during cleaning to prevent damage to its bearings.
6.2 Thermal Paste
The cooler comes with pre-applied thermal paste. If you need to re-install the cooler or replace the CPU, it is recommended to clean off the old thermal paste from both the CPU and the cooler base using isopropyl alcohol and apply a fresh layer of high-quality thermal paste.
7. Troubleshooting
- Fan not spinning: Check the 4-pin PWM cable connection to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard. Ensure the BIOS fan settings are correctly configured.
- High CPU temperatures: Verify that the cooler is securely mounted and making good contact with the CPU. Ensure the protective film was removed from the cooler base. Check for proper thermal paste application. Ensure adequate airflow within your PC case.
- Excessive fan noise: Check for any obstructions to the fan blades. Ensure the fan is securely mounted and not vibrating against other components. Adjust fan speed settings in the BIOS if necessary.
