Safety Information

WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH, ALWAYS TURN OFF POWER AT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE WIRING.

If you are unsure about any part of the instructions or are not comfortable or familiar with electrical wiring, contact a licensed electrician. This device is designed for use with Copper or Copper-Clad wire only. Do not mount near a heat source, in drafty areas, or in motion-heavy areas where unintended motion may trigger the sensor.

Tools Required for Installation

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Electrician's Pliers
  • Wire Stripper
  • Electrical Tape
  • Handheld Voltage Tester
  • Properly Sized Wire Connectors

Installation

Installation typically takes approximately 15 minutes. Always ensure power is off at the circuit breaker before beginning. The device replaces an existing single-pole switch.

1. Prepare for Installation

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse for the switch you are replacing.
  2. Remove the existing switch plate and unscrew the old device from the wall box.
  3. Carefully pull the device out until you can clearly see the wires.
  4. Use a voltage tester to confirm no power is present in the box.
  5. Disconnect all wiring from the old device and remove it.
  6. Straighten and separate each wire in the wall box. Ensure no exposed metal ends are touching.

2. Identify Wiring Configuration

The Leviton DOS02-LW can be wired with or without a neutral wire. Identify if a neutral wire (typically white) is present in your wall box. The neutral wire may be capped off with a wire connector.

3. Wiring the Device

The device features pre-stripped lead wires. Gently pull on the insulation to remove the pre-stripped section. Twist the exposed stranded copper wire in a clockwise direction to prepare it for termination.

Wiring without a Neutral Wire:

  • Connect the green and yellow ground lead wire from the device, along with the green sleeve ground wire, to the ground wire in the wall box using a properly sized wire connector.
  • Connect the black lead wires from the device to the black line and load wires in the wall box. The line and load wires can be wired interchangeably.
  • For DOS05 or DVS05 models (not DOS02-LW), cap off the red/yellow wire with a wire connector as it is only used for 3-way connections.

Wiring with a Neutral Wire:

  • Remove the green sleeve from the white wire on the device. Connect this white wire to the white neutral wire(s) in the wall box using a properly sized wire connector.
  • Connect the green and yellow ground lead wire from the device to the ground wire in the wall box using a properly sized wire connector.

4. Mounting the Device

  1. Gently bend the wires and push them into the wall box.
  2. Screw the sensor into the wall box.
  3. Install the wall plate (sold separately).

Operation

After installation and restoring power, the sensor will undergo a warm-up period (typically 10-20 seconds). For DOS02-LW, lights will automatically turn on with the first motion detected after the warm-up period. You can also manually press the push pad to turn lights on or off.

Programming and Settings

The default settings for the sensor are a 10-minute time-out timer, medium range field-of-view, and medium ambient light setting. These settings can be adjusted to suit your specific needs.

Refer to the detailed product instruction sheet for specific steps on how to change the time-out timer, sensitivity/coverage, and ambient light settings.

Troubleshooting

If the lights do not operate as expected after installation, refer to the troubleshooting section in the full instruction sheet. Common issues and adjustments include:

  • Lights do not operate with push pad and RED indicator does not blink when motion is present: Verify wiring connections to the sensor.
  • Lights do not switch ON when motion is detected (DOS02): Motion may be beyond sensing range (move closer to switch). Adjust the light level lower (Option 3, 2, 1 or disable). If the RED light is blinking, it indicates motion. If it is blinking and the load is not turning ON, it could be due to ambient light OR check to make sure that the OCC/VAC switch is in OCC position.
  • Lights always stay ON: Check time delay settings and compare to how long the lights stay ON. Make sure no motion occurs in the coverage area for the time selected by covering the lens. Check that the switch is not installed near a heat source (like stove, lights, heat vents) or detecting motion from an adjacent area (like hallway traffic) and if it is, relocate it.
  • Lights do not turn ON (DVS02): Make sure that control is installed correctly. Make sure the power is ON. Check to make sure the light bulb is functional.
