Operating Instructions
Device Overview and Controls

Image: Diagram illustrating the various components and controls of the AST300PPM, including the probe tip, display, buttons, and ports.
- Probe Tip/Filter: Flexible probe for reaching tight spaces. Contains a replaceable filter.
- Power Button: Turns the device on/off.
- Mode/Max Button: Cycles through operating modes (PPM, Automatic, Manual Zero) and displays maximum readings.
- SENS/ZERO Button: Adjusts sensitivity or performs a manual zero calibration.
- Headphone Jack: For connecting earbuds (included) for audible alarms.
- Volume Button: Adjusts the volume of audible alerts.
- Micro USB Power Input: Charging port.
- Eject Button: Releases the battery cover.
- Battery Cover: Protects the battery compartment.
Leak Detection Process
- Power On: Turn on the device using the Power button. Allow it to warm up and stabilize.
- Select Mode: Use the Mode/Max button to select your desired operating mode:
- PPM Mode: Displays the concentration of refrigerant in parts per million. Ideal for quantifying leak size.
- Automatic Zero Mode: The device automatically zeros itself to the ambient air, making it suitable for general scanning.
- Manual Zero Mode: Allows you to manually set the zero point in a known clean air environment for precise pinpointing.
- Scan for Leaks: Slowly move the probe tip around suspected leak areas. The PPM display will increase, and the audible alarm will intensify as you approach a leak source.
- Pinpoint the Leak: Once a general area is identified, switch to a more sensitive mode or use the Manual Zero function in a clean area near the leak to pinpoint the exact source. The device's "Cloud Hunting" mode helps find the area of highest concentration, then switch to pinpoint mode for precision.

Maintenance
1. Infrared Sensor Replacement
The infrared sensor is a critical component and is designed for easy field replacement. When the sensor's performance degrades or it reaches its end of life, replace it with a genuine Inficon replacement sensor. Refer to the device's specific instructions for sensor access and replacement. This process typically involves opening a compartment and carefully swapping the sensor module.
2. Filter Replacement
The probe tip contains a filter that prevents debris from entering the sensor. Regularly inspect and replace this filter, especially if operating in dusty or contaminated environments. Use the spare filters provided in the kit.
3. Battery Care
To maximize battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery has a partial charge (around 50%).
4. Cleaning
Wipe the exterior of the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no liquids enter the device's openings.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Low or depleted battery; device malfunction. | Charge the battery. If problem persists, contact support. |
| Inaccurate or inconsistent readings. | Contaminated sensor; dirty filter; incorrect zeroing; presence of other chemicals. | Replace sensor/filter. Perform manual zero in clean air. Ensure area is free of interfering chemicals. |
| No audible alarm. | Volume too low; earbuds not connected properly. | Adjust volume. Check earbud connection. |
| Device not detecting leaks. | Sensor issue; incorrect mode selection; leak too small. | Ensure sensor is functional. Try different modes. For very small leaks, ensure proper technique and environment. |
