The Jura ENA 4 is designed to optimize the espresso brewing process, featuring Jura's signature Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) for full flavor development. It offers a range of preprogrammed coffee specialties and can also be used with pre-ground coffee.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • Do not immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the machine and all accessories from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
  2. Placement: Place the machine on a stable, level surface, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  3. Water Tank Preparation: Remove the water tank, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water, and fill it with cold, fresh tap water. Insert the Jura CLARIS filter cartridge if desired, following the filter instructions. Reinsert the water tank securely.
  4. Bean Container Filling: Open the aroma preservation cover of the bean container and fill it with fresh coffee beans. Close the cover.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into the machine and then into a grounded wall outlet.
  6. Initial Rinse: Follow the on-screen prompts or indicator lights for the initial system rinse. Place a container under the coffee spout to collect the water.

Operating Instructions

The Jura ENA 4 offers simple one-touch operation for various coffee specialties.

Making Coffee

  1. Turn On: Press the power button to switch on the machine. It will perform a brief rinse cycle.
  2. Place Cup: Position a cup under the coffee spout. Adjust the spout height to fit your cup.
  3. Select Specialty:
    • Press the Espresso button for a single espresso.
    • Press the Espresso Doppio button for a double espresso.
    • Press the Coffee button for a single coffee.
    • Press the Coffee Doppio button for a double coffee.
  4. Adjust Strength (Optional): Before brewing, you may be able to adjust the coffee strength via the control panel settings. Refer to the machine's display or indicator lights for options.
  5. Brewing: The machine will automatically grind the beans and brew your selected coffee.

Using Pre-Ground Coffee

  1. Prepare Machine: Ensure the machine is ready for operation.
  2. Open Chute: Open the cover for the pre-ground coffee chute.
  3. Add Coffee: Add one level scoop of pre-ground coffee (not instant coffee) into the chute. Do not overfill.
  4. Close Chute: Close the cover.
  5. Select Specialty: Choose your desired coffee specialty. The machine will use the pre-ground coffee for this single brew.

Note: The Aroma G3 grinder ensures optimal aroma preservation when using whole beans. Using pre-ground coffee bypasses the integrated grinder.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Jura ENA 4.

Daily Cleaning

  • Empty Drip Tray and Coffee Grounds Container: Remove, empty, and rinse the drip tray and the coffee grounds container daily. Wipe them dry before reinserting.
  • Wipe Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

System Cleaning Program

The machine will prompt you when a system cleaning is required. Use Jura cleaning tablets and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. When prompted, press the cleaning button or follow the display instructions.
  2. Add a Jura cleaning tablet to the designated opening (usually the pre-ground coffee chute).
  3. Place a container under the coffee spout.
  4. The machine will guide you through the cleaning process, which involves several rinse cycles.

Descaling Program

If you are not using a CLARIS filter, the machine will eventually prompt you to descale. Use Jura descaling tablets and follow the instructions.

  1. When prompted, initiate the descaling program.
  2. Dissolve Jura descaling tablets in water as instructed and pour the solution into the water tank.
  3. Place a large container under the coffee spout.
  4. The machine will perform the descaling process, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Filter Replacement

If using a CLARIS filter, replace it when prompted by the machine (approximately every 2 months or after 50 liters of water). This prevents limescale buildup and ensures water quality.

Troubleshooting
