4. Setup

  1. Mounting: Install the PDU horizontally in a standard 19-inch rack using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure adequate airflow around the unit.
  2. Power Connection: Connect the PDU's NEMA L6-30P input plug to a dedicated 30A, 208V/240V power source. Verify the power source is properly grounded.
  3. Equipment Connection: Connect your IT equipment power cords to the PDU's C13/C19 outlets. Distribute the load evenly across the two circuits (Circuit 1 and Circuit 2) to prevent overloading.
  4. Network Connection (Optional): For remote monitoring and control, connect an Ethernet cable from the PDU's network port to your network switch. Refer to the network configuration guide for IP address setup.
  5. Power On: Once all connections are secure, switch on the circuit breakers on the front of the PDU. The local display should illuminate, indicating power is supplied.

5. Operating Instructions

The Vertiv Geist Switched Rack PDU allows for local and remote management of power to connected devices.

5.1 Local Operation

  • Local Display: The front panel display shows real-time power metrics such as current (Amps), voltage (Volts), and power (kW) for the entire unit.
  • Circuit Breakers: Use the circuit breakers to manually switch power on or off for the respective circuits. In case of an overload, a breaker will trip, disconnecting power to its circuit. Reset by switching it back to the 'ON' position after reducing the load.

5.2 Remote Operation (Networked Units)

For units connected to a network, access the PDU's web interface or management software for advanced features:

  • Outlet Switching: Individually switch outlets on or off remotely.
  • Power Monitoring: View detailed power consumption data per outlet or per circuit.
  • Alerts and Notifications: Configure thresholds for current, voltage, and power to receive alerts via email or SNMP when limits are exceeded.
  • Scheduling: Schedule power cycling for connected equipment.

6. Maintenance

The Vertiv Geist Switched Rack PDU requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines:

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the PDU, power cords, and connected equipment for any signs of damage, wear, or loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the PDU clean and free of dust. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
