1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Recordio GAX-M12 12-Channel Mixing Console. This professional audio mixer is designed to provide high-quality sound processing for various applications, including live performances, studio recording, and public address systems. Please read this manual thoroughly to understand the functions and ensure safe and optimal operation of your device.

2. Important Safety Instructions

  • Power Supply: Connect the unit only to the specified voltage (220V-240V, 50-60Hz) using the provided power cord. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting the power cable.
  • Grounding: This appliance must be grounded. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug.
  • Moisture: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. Do not use near water.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Heat: Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.   • Cleaning: Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. Clean only with a dry cloth.

4. Controls and Functions

4.1 Rear Panel Overview

  • POWER Switch: Turns the mixer ON or OFF.
  • AC INPUT / FUSE: Connects the power cord. Contains a replaceable fuse for protection.
  • SPEAKER OUTPUT (RIGHT/LEFT): XLR outputs for connecting to powered speakers or power amplifiers.
  • Cooling Fan: Provides ventilation to prevent overheating. Ensure it is not obstructed.

4.2 Input Channel Controls (Channels 1-12)

  • MIC Input Jacks: XLR inputs for microphones.
  • LINE Input Jacks: 1/4" TRS inputs for line-level devices (e.g., keyboards, guitars with preamps).
  • TRIM Control: Adjusts the input gain for the microphone or line input. Use to set the signal level before it reaches the channel EQ.
  • Equalizer (HIGH, MID, LOW): 3-band EQ for shaping the tone of each channel. Adjusts high, mid, and low frequencies.
  • FX Control: Sends a portion of the channel signal to the internal DSP effects processor.
  • CLIP LED: Illuminates when the input signal is too high, indicating potential clipping. Reduce TRIM if this LED lights up frequently.
  • PAN Control: Adjusts the stereo position of the channel signal (left to right).
  • CHANNEL FADER: Controls the output level of the individual channel to the main mix.

  • CONTROL ROOM OUT Jacks: Outputs for connecting to studio monitors or headphones for monitoring.
  • MAIN OUT (L, R) Jacks: Main stereo outputs of the mixer, typically connected to a power amplifier or powered speakers.
  • PHANTOM +48V Switch: Activates +48V phantom power for condenser microphones connected to the XLR inputs.
  • MP3 Player Jack: USB port for connecting a USB drive for MP3 playback/recording.
  • EFFECTOR DISPLAY: Digital screen showing the selected DSP effect program.
  • MP3 PLAY Window: Displays information related to MP3 playback (track number, time).
  • STEREO AUX RETURNS Jacks: Inputs for returning external effects or other stereo line-level signals.

  • PROGRAM (PUSH) Knob: Rotate to select from the 16 built-in DSP effects. Press the knob to confirm the selection.
  • PARAMETER Knob: Adjusts specific parameters of the selected effect (e.g., delay time, reverb decay).
  • STOP/REC Button: Used for MP3 recording functions.

5. Setup Guide

5.1 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the mixer's POWER switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the provided AC power cord to the AC INPUT on the rear panel of the mixer.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable grounded electrical outlet (220V-240V, 50-60Hz).

5.2 Audio Connections

  1. Microphones: Connect microphones to the MIC Input Jacks (XLR) on the desired channels. If using condenser microphones, activate the PHANTOM +48V switch.
  2. Line-Level Devices: Connect instruments or other line-level audio sources (e.g., keyboards, CD players) to the LINE Input Jacks (1/4" TRS) on the desired channels.
  3. Main Outputs: Connect the MAIN OUT (L, R) Jacks (XLR) to your power amplifier or powered speakers.
  4. Monitoring: Connect headphones to the PHONES Jack and/or studio monitors to the CONTROL ROOM OUT Jacks for monitoring your mix.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Mixing

  1. Turn on the mixer using the POWER switch.
  2. Ensure all CHANNEL FADERS and the MAIN MIX FADER are at their lowest setting.
  3. Connect your audio sources.
  4. For each active channel, slowly increase the TRIM control until the CLIP LED flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of the signal.
  5. Adjust the CHANNEL FADER for each input to achieve a balanced mix.
  6. Slowly raise the MAIN MIX FADER to the desired overall output level, monitoring the Level Meter to avoid clipping.
  7. Use the EQ controls on each channel to fine-tune the tone of individual inputs.
  8. Adjust the PAN control to position each channel in the stereo field.

6.2 Bluetooth Connectivity

  1. Press the BLUETOOTH button on the master section. The display will indicate Bluetooth pairing mode.
  2. On your mobile device, search for Bluetooth devices and select "GAX-M12" (or similar name).
  3. Once paired, you can play audio from your device through the mixer.
  4. Adjust the MP3 VOL Fader to control the Bluetooth audio level.

6.3 MP3 Playback and Recording

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into the MP3 Player Jack.
  2. The mixer will automatically detect and display MP3 files. Use the navigation buttons (often integrated with the PROGRAM knob) to select tracks.
  3. Adjust the MP3 VOL Fader for playback level.
  4. To record, press the STOP/REC button. The mixer will record the main mix to the USB drive. Press STOP/REC again to stop recording.

6.4 DSP Effects

  1. Rotate the PROGRAM (PUSH) knob to browse through the 16 available effects. The EFFECTOR DISPLAY will show the selected program number.
  2. Press the PROGRAM (PUSH) knob to confirm your effect selection.
  3. Use the FX Control knob on each channel to send the desired amount of that channel's signal to the effects processor.
  4. Adjust the FX SEND Fader in the master section to control the overall level of the effects.
  5. Use the PARAMETER knob to fine-tune specific aspects of the chosen effect.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Always disconnect the power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the mixer. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Regularly check that the cooling fan and ventilation openings are free from dust and debris.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Fuse Replacement: If the mixer does not power on, check the fuse in the AC INPUT/FUSE compartment. Replace it with a fuse of the exact same type and rating if necessary.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power:
    • Check if the power cord is securely connected to both the mixer and the power outlet.
    • Ensure the POWER switch is ON.
    • Check the fuse in the AC INPUT/FUSE compartment.
  • No Sound Output:
    • Verify that the MAIN MIX FADER is raised.
    • Check that individual CHANNEL FADERS are raised for active inputs.
    • Ensure your power amplifier or powered speakers are turned on and connected correctly.
    • Check all cable connections.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the TRIM control on the input channel if the CLIP LED is frequently lighting up.
    • Lower the MAIN MIX FADER if the Level Meter indicates clipping.
    • Ensure all cables are in good condition and correctly connected.
  • Bluetooth Not Connecting:
    • Ensure the BLUETOOTH button is pressed and the mixer is in pairing mode.
    • Make sure your mobile device's Bluetooth is enabled and within range.
    • Try restarting both the mixer and your mobile device.
  • MP3 Playback Issues:
    • Ensure the USB drive is formatted correctly and contains compatible MP3 files.
    • Check if the USB drive is securely inserted into the MP3 Player Jack.
