Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the operation and maintenance of your JENSEN CD-590 Portable Stereo CD and Cassette Player/Recorder with AM/FM Radio and Bluetooth. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the unit and retain it for future reference.

Setup
Powering the Unit
The CD-590 can be powered by AC household current or by batteries.
AC Power Operation:
- Ensure the unit is turned off.
- Plug the detachable AC power cord into the AC socket located on the back of the unit.
- Plug the other end of the AC power cord into a standard 120V AC, 60Hz wall outlet.
- The unit is now ready for use with AC power.
Battery Power Operation:
- Disconnect the AC power cord from the unit and the wall outlet.
- Open the battery compartment door located on the bottom of the unit.
- Insert 6 x 'C' size batteries (not included) into the compartment, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment door securely.
- The unit is now ready for portable use with battery power.
Antenna Setup
For optimal FM radio reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna. For AM reception, the unit has a built-in ferrite bar antenna, so no external adjustment is needed, but you may need to reposition the unit for best reception.
Operating Instructions
General Controls Overview

- POWER Button: Turns the unit ON or OFF.
- VOLUME Control: Adjusts the audio output level.
- MODE Button: Selects between CD, Bluetooth, AM, FM, and AUX modes.
- PLAY/PAUSE Button (►/❚❚): Starts or pauses playback in CD/Bluetooth mode.
- STOP Button (■): Stops playback in CD/Cassette mode.
- SKIP/SEARCH Buttons (◀◀ / ►►): Skips tracks or searches within a track in CD/Bluetooth mode.
- ALBUM Button: Navigates between albums on MP3 CDs.
- LCD Display: Shows current mode, track number, and other information.
CD Playback
- Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "CD" appears on the LCD display.
- Open the CD compartment door by gently lifting it.
- Place a CD (or CD-R/RW with MP3 files) onto the center spindle with the label side facing up.
- Close the CD compartment door securely. The unit will read the disc, and the total number of tracks will appear on the display.
- Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (►/❚❚) to start playback.
- Use the SKIP/SEARCH buttons (◀◀ / ►►) to navigate between tracks. Press and hold to search within a track.
- Press the STOP button (■) to stop playback.
- For MP3 CDs, use the ALBUM button to select different folders/albums.

Cassette Playback and Recording
- Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "TAPE" (or similar indicator) appears on the LCD display.
- Open the cassette compartment door by pressing the EJECT button (usually located near the cassette door).
- Insert a cassette tape with the open edge facing upwards and the side to be played facing you.
- Close the cassette compartment door.
- Press the PLAY button (►) on the cassette controls to start playback.
- Use the FAST FORWARD (FF) and REWIND (REW) buttons to quickly move through the tape.
- Press the STOP/EJECT button (■/▲) to stop playback or eject the tape.
- Recording: To record from the radio or CD, select the desired source (AM/FM or CD), then press the RECORD button (●) on the cassette controls. The PLAY button will automatically engage. Press STOP to end recording.

AM/FM Radio Operation
- Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "AM" or "FM" appears on the LCD display.
- Adjust the TUNING knob (usually on the side or front) to select your desired radio station.
- For FM reception, extend the telescopic antenna. For AM reception, rotate the unit for best signal.
Bluetooth Pairing and Playback
- Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "BT" or "Bluetooth" appears on the LCD display. The unit will enter pairing mode, indicated by a flashing Bluetooth icon or similar.
- Enable Bluetooth on your external device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) and search for available devices.
- Select "JENSEN CD-590" from the list of devices.
- Once paired, the Bluetooth indicator on the unit will stop flashing and remain solid. You can now stream audio wirelessly from your device to the CD-590.
- Use the controls on your Bluetooth device or the CD-590 (PLAY/PAUSE, SKIP/SEARCH) to control playback.

Auxiliary Input (AUX IN)
- Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
- Press the MODE button repeatedly until "AUX" appears on the LCD display.
- Connect one end of a 3.5mm audio cable (not included) to the AUX IN jack on the CD-590.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the headphone jack or audio output of your external audio device (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone).
- Start playback on your external device. The audio will be played through the CD-590 speakers.
- Adjust the volume using the VOLUME control on the CD-590 and/or your external device.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Unit
- Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure the unit is unplugged from the AC power source before cleaning.
CD Lens Care
- A dirty CD lens can cause skipping or playback errors. Use a commercially available CD lens cleaner to clean the lens.
- Never touch the CD lens with your fingers.
Cassette Head Cleaning
- After every 10-20 hours of operation, clean the cassette heads, capstan, and pinch roller using a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
- Demagnetize the cassette heads periodically with a cassette head demagnetizer to prevent poor sound quality.
Troubleshooting
