1. Introduction

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Device

Before first use, fully charge the scanner for 2-3 hours. A full charge provides approximately 9 hours of continuous scanning or 2 months of standby time. Connect the USB charging cable to the scanner's charging port and a power source (e.g., computer USB port or USB wall adapter).

5.2 Connecting via USB Cable (Plug & Play)

For a direct wired connection:

1. Connect one end of the USB cable to the scanner.
2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer or POS system.
3. The scanner will be recognized as a keyboard input device and is ready for use.

5.3 Connecting via Bluetooth

The scanner can connect to Bluetooth-enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers.

1. Ensure the scanner is powered on.
2. Scan the "Bluetooth Pairing" barcode (refer to the quick start guide or the full manual for specific configuration barcodes).
3. On your device, go to Bluetooth settings and search for available devices.
4. Select "NETUM Barcode Scanner" or a similar name from the list to pair.
5. Once paired, the scanner is ready for wireless operation.

5.4 Connecting via 2.4G Wireless Dongle

The 2.4G wireless dongle is typically stored in the handle of the scanner.

1. Remove the 2.4G wireless dongle from the scanner's handle.
2. Insert the dongle into an available USB port on your computer.
3. The system will automatically install the necessary drivers.
4. The scanner should automatically connect to the dongle and be ready for use.

5.5 Assembling the Stand

The stand consists of a base, a flexible neck, and a scanner holder. Assemble by screwing the flexible neck into the base, then attaching the scanner holder to the top of the flexible neck. The stand allows for hands-free scanning in automatic or continuous scan modes.

6. Operating the Scanner

6.1 Scanning Modes

• Instant Upload Mode: Scanned barcodes are immediately transmitted to the connected device. This is the default mode.
• Storage Mode (Offline Storage): If the scanner is out of range or not connected, it can store up to 130,000 barcodes internally. Once reconnected, you can upload the stored data.

6.2 Trigger Modes

• Key Trigger Mode: Press the trigger button to activate the scanning beam and read a barcode.
• Continuous Scan Mode: The scanning beam remains active continuously, allowing for rapid scanning without pressing the trigger for each item.
• Auto-Sensing Mode: The scanner automatically detects a barcode placed in front of it and activates the scanning beam to read it. This mode is ideal for hands-free operation with the stand.

To switch between trigger modes, scan the corresponding configuration barcodes provided in the full user manual.

6.3 Supported Barcode Types

The NT-1228BL scanner supports a wide range of 1D and 2D barcode symbologies, including but not limited to:

• 1D Barcodes: EAN13, UPCE, UPCA, Codebar, Code11, Code39, Code93FullASCll, Code128, etc.
• 2D Barcodes: QR Code, PDF417, Data Matrix.

Note: Some barcode types (e.g., Maxi Code, Interleaved 2 of 5) may be disabled by default and require scanning specific configuration barcodes to enable them. The scanner may not be ideal for very long 1D barcodes (over 6 cm). It can only decode automotive QR codes with a white background and cannot read DMV codes.

6.4 Language Settings

The scanner supports multiple languages for output, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. Refer to the full user manual for barcodes to configure the desired language layout.

7. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the scanner's exterior. For the scanning window, use a lens cleaning cloth and solution if necessary. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If storing the scanner for an extended period, charge it to about 50% and store in a cool, dry place. Recharge every few months.
• Storage: Store the scanner in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
