3. Setup Guide
3.1 Battery Installation and Charging
The R108 radio is powered by a BL-5C rechargeable battery (included). To install the battery, open the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio. Insert the BL-5C battery, ensuring correct polarity, then close the cover.
To charge the battery, connect the included Type-C USB charging cable to the radio's USB IN 5V port and the other end to a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer, USB wall adapter). The battery indicator on the display will show charging status.
3.2 Antenna Setup
For optimal reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully. For enhanced reception, especially on SW and LW bands, connect the included external antenna to the ANT. jack on the side of the radio.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
Press the red power button on the top right of the radio to turn it on or off.
4.2 Band Selection
Press the BAND button repeatedly to cycle through the available frequency bands: FM, MW, SW, LW, and AIR band. The selected band will be displayed on the LCD screen.
4.3 Tuning Methods
The R108 offers multiple ways to tune to a station:
- Tuning Knob: Rotate the TUNING knob on the right side of the radio to manually adjust the frequency. You can adjust the tuning speed (FAST/SLOW/STOP) using the corresponding setting.
- VM/VF (Variable Mode/Variable Frequency): Press the VM/VF button to switch between memory mode (VM) and variable frequency mode (VF). In VF mode, you can directly input frequencies.
- Up & Down Arrows: Use the ▲ and ▼ buttons to step through frequencies.
- FREQ (Direct Frequency Input): Press the FREQ button, then use the number pad to enter the desired frequency, and press FREQ again to confirm.
- ATS (Auto Tuning Storage): Press and hold the ATS button to automatically scan and store available stations in the current band. Note that using ATS will erase previously stored memories for that band.
- Memory Presets: Use the number pad (1-9) or the MEMORY button to recall stored stations.
4.4 Setting Alarm and Sleep Timer
The radio features both an alarm clock and a sleep timer. Refer to the detailed display diagram (Image 2.3.7) for indicator locations.
- Alarm Clock: Press the ALARM button to enter alarm setting mode. Use the number pad or tuning knob to set the desired alarm time.
- Sleep Timer: The sleep timer allows the radio to turn off automatically after a set period (0-120 minutes). Consult the full user manual for specific steps to activate and adjust the sleep timer.
4.5 Memory Presets
The R108 can store up to 500 stations. To store a station, tune to the desired frequency, then press and hold the MEMORY button. Use the number pad to select a memory location, then press MEMORY again to confirm. To recall a stored station, press the MEMORY button and enter the memory location number.
4.6 Squelch Function
The squelch function helps to reduce background noise when listening to weaker signals, particularly useful on Airband. Adjust the SQUELCH level (OFF "1-9") using the tuning knob when the squelch mode is active.
4.7 Key Lock Function
To prevent accidental button presses, the radio features a key-lock function. Refer to the full user manual for instructions on how to activate and deactivate this feature.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your radio.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Care: If the radio will not be used for an extended period, remove the BL-5C battery to prevent leakage. Recharge the battery regularly to maintain its health.
- Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
- Antenna: Handle the telescopic antenna with care to avoid bending or breaking.
